Has anybody in position of authority ever thought about offering a substantial reward for the arrest and conviction of the brains behind BK. Why not advertise a reward of say one billion naira for anybody or group that could help expose these criminals.
The reward should be coupled to an adequate security protection, and a guarantee of anonimity.
Offering bounties on the head of criminals has proven to be a very effective means of fighting crimes, because of the psychology involved.
The federal goverment should seriously consider this approach angry

If the FG were to do that 149 million names will be forwarded to them.

For that money even I would name most of my family as potential members.

That's naija. . . .

The reward is for arrest and conviction, not just for suspiciouly pointing at someone. If they recieve 149 million names, then that's where vetting comes in.

It will work. The thing is not just to come up with names but with substantial evidence/leads that should lead to an end of the group. Our government is either not thinking in this regard or too foolish to act.

Don't be surprised that some of the people behind the terrorists in  Nigeria are intimately close to the government of the day, and are in fact high level government officials. If these people were not fished out when MEND was carrying out its own murderous atrocities, I wouldn't expect N1billion to fish them out this time around.

You don't place a bounty on an organization. If that were to happen, then I'll willingly submit my friend as a boko-haram agent.

If they're in goverment, the easier it would be to figure them out.
Comparing MEND with BK is like comparing apples and oranges, they're not the same, and you know it.
Anyway, in a country where a policeman would easily shoot you for 20 naira, 1 billion naira, cool and safe remains a strong incentive to rat on your best friend and closes religious ally anytime-------it has worked miracles in Iraq, and other places.

There is no need to figure out who they are, GEJ and his government, with help from his USA friends, already know who they are. GEJ and his men simply need the balls and guts to do the needful.

US official: Al-Qaida's No. 2 killed in Pakistan
By MATT APUZZO - Associated Press | AP – 1 hr 47 mins agotweet198Share14EmailPrintWASHINGTON (AP) —

Al-Qaida's second-in-command, Atiyah Abd al-Rahman, has been killed in Pakistan, delivering another big blow to a terrorist group that the U.S. believes to be on the verge of defeat, U.S. officials said Saturday.

The Libyan national had been the network's operational leader before rising to al-Qaida's No. 2 spot after the U.S. killed al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden during a raid on his Pakistan compound in May.

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said last month that al-Qaida's defeat was within reach if the U.S. could mount a string of successful attacks on the group's weakened leadership.

"Now is the moment, following what happened with bin Laden, to put maximum pressure on them," Panetta said, "because I do believe that if we continue this effort we can really cripple al-Qaida as a major threat."

Since bin Laden's death, al-Qaida's structure has been unsettled and U.S. officials have hoped to capitalize on that. The more uncertain the leadership, the harder it is for al-Qaida to operate covertly and plan attacks.

Bin Laden's longtime deputy, Ayman al-Zawahiri, is running the group but is considered a divisive figure who lacks the founder's charisma and ability to galvanize al-Qaida's disparate franchises.

A U.S. official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to summarize the government's intelligence on al-Rahman, said al-Rahman's death will make it harder for Zawahiri to oversee what is considered an increasingly weakened organization.

"Zawahiri needed Atiyah's experience and connections to help manage al-Qaida," the official said.

Al-Rahman was killed Aug. 22 in the lawless Pakistani tribal region of Waziristan, according to a senior administration who also insisted on anonymity to discuss intelligence issues.

The official would not say how al-Rahman was killed. But his death came on the same day that a CIA drone strike was reported in Waziristan. Such strikes by unmanned aircraft are Washington's weapon of choice for killing terrorists in the mountainous, hard-to-reach area along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

Rahman has been thought to be dead before. Last year, there were reports that Rahman was killed in a drone strike but neither senior U.S. administration officials nor al-Qaida ever confirmed them.

Al-Rahman, believed to be in his mid-30s, was a close confidant of bin Laden and once served as bin Laden's emissary to Iran.

Al-Rahman was allowed to move freely in and out of Iran as part of that arrangement and has been operating out of Waziristan for some time, officials have said.

Born in Libya, al-Rahman joined bin Laden as a teenager in Afghanistan to fight the Soviet Union.

After Navy SEALs killed bin Laden, they found evidence of al-Rahman's role as operational chief, U.S. officials have said.

This is Nigeria remember. If you snitch on the masterminds behind all this evil, then just prepare for your funeral and decide how you'd like to be buried; funeral music and all. All the masterminds need do is bribe a few highly placed officials, and your name would most likely be revealed. Nigeria doesn't do 'anonymity' with all the competing interests and mutual suspicion going on. Some fool may feel he owes allegiance more to his religion or ethnicity than the country as a whole.

Heck!! They may even bribe and buy over enough officials to the extent of having you framed for everything, and leaving you wondering why the fu*ck you even bothered in the first place, Stranger things have happened.

There's a good reason placing a reward on someone always works out.

They know where the evil guys are hiding. Using satallite and human intelligence they usually pin-point their target to one room in a vast complex, don't worry, the innocent will be spared.
Did you see how the drone followed the al-quada #2 for many hours and the guy never got a hint, until he was suddenly "presented with his own share of hiv-infected 72 virgins."
A drone fired from the ocean would have no difficulty travelling to Maiduguru for a surgical operation and returning safely to base.
Bombing the UN and killing Americans and other nationals has suddenly raised the ante of this game---thank God, because this draws Americans directly into the game.

@op,

Instead of putting bounty on their head FG is rewarding them with bounties.

FG know who they are. They had started the amnesty negotiation already.

Here's the 'benefit' of BK bombing the UN: dragging US, UN and other nations into the conflict.

US, UN Join Fight Against Boko Haram .
Sunday, 28 August 2011 00:00 From Laolu Akande, New York News - National

SPURRED by Friday’s bombing of the United Nations House in Abuja, the fight against the extremist agenda of the Boko Haram has now taken an international dimension, as top officials of the United Nations and the US government are ready to square up with the activities of the group.
Authoritative sources disclosed that while the United Nations has sent some of its senior officials to join the Federal Government in working out a framework to deal with the perpetrators of attack, the US government has also offered investigative assistance to track down leaders of the Islamic sect.

Besides, it was learnt, over the weekend, that the Commander of the US Africa Command, AFRICOM, in an earlier visit to Nigeria this month had offered to provide help to the Nigerian Military and government on how to deal with the menace of the extremist group, especially when the Americans suspected that Boko Haram was trying to link up with the Al Quaeda terrorist group.

A report by the Associated Press in the US quoted AFRICOM’s Commander, General Carter Ham, as saying that Boko Haram might be seeking to mount joint attacks in Nigeria with other African militants.

Ham reportedly stated then that US intelligence sources indicated that Boko Haram had made contact with Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, which operates in North Africa, and with the Shabab in Somalia.

Also speaking over the weekend, a senior UN diplomat, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, who was visibly upset about Friday’s attack, said the perpetrators of the attack on the UN House, “by attacking the UN, are the ones internationalising the issue and thus requiring international cooperation in response to their awful acts.”
