A yet-to-be-identified man has been confirmed dead after drowning while riding on a jet ski at the Lekki-Ikoyi inland waterways in Lagos State, IGBERETV reports.

A statement released by the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, says the victim drowned as a result of over speeding. He said that efforts are being made to recover his body from the lagoon.

“It was discovered by the agency’s responders on duty at the lekki base that an unidentified male adult drowned at the Lekki-Ikoyi inland waterways as a result of over speeding while he was riding on a jet ski at the said location.

"Efforts are ongoing involving LASWA divers and LASEMA officials to retrieve the body of the adult male whose body has unfortunately sunk too deep to be rescued," the statement read.

And I hope others will learn from this , does unnecessary stunts they do , sometimes when I drive on the link bridge and see them I wonder if they have two life , no life jacket and unnecessary stunts

Even if he wanted to speed (which I like to do and is one reason I would never live abroad long term) did he not have a life jacket on? and most importantly he could not swim? Unfortunate oo.

You can afford jet ski ride but cant learn how to swim?? You cant from due to overspeeding, you can crash or fall, drowning is due to ingestion of water in your lungs

No matter what just learn how to swim for no reason. It will come in handy you never can tell and if you know you're doing anything on a large body of water that's not a pool, even if you can swim always put on a floater no matter how good a swimmer you are. Sea, lagoon, River are different experiences compared to swimming pool.

This reminds me of my trip outside the country . I was offered to ride the jetskii , I told the tour guard that I'm not doing it because I don't know how to swim
