nigeria is not a book reading society. otherwise the number of books that would have been written by administration insiders about buharis clusterfucks. would have been an industry within itself

I too sabi, I too sabi …. You gave yourself Minister of Petroleum!

This is the most prolonged fuel crisis the country has had since I can remember.
No government was this clueless and no government has been so helpless that marketers raise prices by themselves without government giving the go-ahead!

Funny thing is Nigerians are tired and will pay any amount to have fuel … this wasn’t the case when in 2011 the administration raised prices and everyone had an erection and occupied everywhere! The agitators are the ones in power today and have nearly tripled prices.

In summary… VOTE WISELY

The marketer also pointed out that there had been concerns around logistics, stressing that dealers in Apapa, Lagos, were being forced to pay N100,000 on each tanker to naval men manning checkpoints before being allowed to cross under the bridge at the Navy Dockyard Road to load petroleum products from the depots.

The source added, “Marketers are forced to pay this amount, whether they want to pick from Conoil, Aiteo, MRS, Oando, or whichever. There was a time the downstream regulator came to complain about this to the head of the security agency involved, but he defended his boys and nothing was done to stop it.

This is insanity. The navy setting up illegal check points and the naval chief is in full support.
very true 60 to 100k . From total gas to marine beach to navy junction. If your don't pay you will be on line for weeks.

Marketers are greedy. They want petrol to be deregulated so that what happened to diesel will happen to it.

If deregulation is allowed, petrol within a short period will cost 1,000 naira per litre.

Am bacck.

Okay, several things from this report

1.It is clear and has been clear...if you want an end to LONG LINES, FUEL SCARCITY, even NO REFINERIES.......let us be honest....SUBSIDY MUST GO. THE MARKET MUST SET ITS PRICE. Yeah, we will buy fuel at least at N600, and cars would be freely available (yes)...but at the end, it would, as the experts said...

A final resolution to these challenges will be the full deregulation of the petroleum downstream sector to encourage the liberalisation of supply and long-term investment distribution assets. We urge the government to work towards this end goal,” the body stated.

2.APC government has been a mess on the subsidy issue. They won't deregulate. So also their opponents...they too are opposed to deregulation.

At the end, remove subsidy, allow the market to be free...and there will be no more queues.

There is no such thing as cheap fuel. It costs money, it costs money, it costs money.

Anyone quoting me to cry about the death of subsidy should do well to google for the article...Fuel subsides: The Conversation. After months of arguing with Nigerians about subsidy, I have decided to stop doing so, and just post my ideas. If you can't read...so be it.

But then again

1.Government won't be throwing money at NNPC in the name of subsidy

2.We actually save naira

3.We reduce our budget deficit by a lot. (To do away with it involves being more productive)

4.Instead of government dashing importers dollars to import, the importers will go and look for their dollars to import...

5.Domestic refining will make more and more sense.

Time the subsidy went...because if we have been seeing fuel scarcity every year since 1990...that means subsidy is not working.

These assumptions are based on a working system.

Yes deregulation is good
But you'll come to find that they are the major marketers and will always find a way to sabotage the whole thing.

Unless we decentralize, which they don't want.

We run a deregulated system in the GSM sector.

Prices of phones and services were intially EXPENSIVE (My first phone line cost me N7000), but as time went on, and more investment pured it...we got the extensive phone and internet service that we have today.

Also, food is deregulated. We used to subsidize foodstuff (which was why bread used to cost 50 kobo)...but once the production costs rose above what the subsides could take, we had food queues in the early 1980's. Once the subsides were lifted..food prices initally went up, before they stabilised.

Keep in mind that since November 2022, it costs NNPC at least N500 to bring in one liter of fuel. And it has to ensure that fuel is sold at N180. A year ago it was N230 to bring in one liter of fuel. At some point, we have to wonder how much money we throw at the problem, and how much deficit we can sustain in keeping fuel cheap

My own concern is what the NLC said,

“The solution now is for us to get functional refineries and this is something the incoming administration needs to focus on.”

It's now they are telling us solutions

The solution is to ground the country with a strike amd watch if the government won't correct this mess.

In other countries, the govt no do half of this dem don go on strike. What am i even saying, when Jonathan was president, He didn't do half of this before they "occupied Nigeria"

Now they are just toothless. Rubbish!

How will Nigeria gets functional refineries? It's easier said than done. Where will the money to build it come from? Something we should have done many years ago. It's extremely expensive to do it now unless no money will be voted for infrastructure and some key sector of economy in the budget.

This government is wicked. Why is our refineries not working? Is it not a shame for a nation as big as Nigeria not to have a functioning referinery.

The subsidy regime is a scam. They know what they are doing.

For 7 years, APC can't fix our refineries. Meanwhile, an individual is building one. What a shame.

And some idiots wants this government back to power. Are we reasoning with our brains?

They should stop confusing Nigerians with the word subsidy and fix our refineries.

All of them will burn in hell unless they repent of this wickedness.

Brethrens, this is the effect of voting in incapacitated, old and weak President. He doesn't even know what's happening in his country. Like the president of say Rwanda is more informed about what ordinary Nigerians are passing through than our president.

Those around them are Shadow decision makers urging then on, those re the men ruining us without taking responsibility.

Flee from this dubious system of government. It's unproductive.

For once in your life ,vote wisely.

Well, all our problems begin with fuel being brought into the country at N510 and sold at N180 per liter.

Better read what a subsidy entails too.
