Is The Lekki Seaport Partially Owned By Chinese Company? by Blaze14k: 9:21am On Jan 27, 2023
I came across this news by a Chinese broadcast station describing how the lekki deep seaport will create about 2 hundred thousand jobs for the citizens and they claim the seaport is owned by a Chinese company and Tolaram group.

Beijing called a deep seaport in Africa—that’s Chinese-funded and partially owned by a Chinese company—a “game changer project” for west Africa and it fits right in with the Chinese Communist regime’s global sea port ambitions.

Is the lekki deep seaport actually owned by a Chinese company?

Many massive projects in Nigeria are funded by loans from China and awarded to construction companies from China.

Yah this is spot on and im really shocked to see this. The most shocking part is how the federal government claim they built the seaport. A whole 75% is invested by the Chinese company 😲😲😲 its really bad.

That 75% is owned by the Chinese company and Tolaram. It is a private sector driven project. Stop sounding stupid, what do you think the call for foreign investments/investors is all about.

You are the one that is stupid for allowing a whopping 75% to go to a Chinese company. Thats a bad deal dump fvck

Try and get sense this early morning. The 75% you are worried about is owned by Tolaram (a group investors) and the Chinese company. What do you want again. If you wanted it wholly Nigerian why did you not buy all the shares.

Don't mind him. Even in the trade law or act or Local Content Law, FG should own 40 or 45%. Some of them are too sentimental because of political affiliation or support. They are destroying the country with their actions and inactions which lack elementary logic and reasoning.

Even in PPP, FG is entitled to own 40 or 45%. I think you need to read local content law or trade law

The company pays a lot of taxes, mobilizes our economy, employ thousands, multiplier effects will affect millions, real estate, traders, business men in the area will get new customers. All over the world private companies have big stakes in Capital investments that drive the economy. Government must just make money from taxes, vats, royalties etc. The main benefits are what I highlighted above. Of course the company will be forced to enter our stock exchange, and become a public liability company, so Nigerians benefit from it's profits.

Must the FG own or be part of private investments in Nigeria?

Investment is all about jobs, progress and development and revenue for the government.

Why do you people always think like illiterates?

This is how Tinubu is selling everything to them and getting a kickback. No reasonable leader with our resources would allow you to take that much in percentage in her country. These people are taking us back to modern slavery and colonization. There is nothing much special about building seaports. We have Nigerians that can do the projects properly they just don't live in Nigeria sadly.
Re: Is The Lekki Seaport Partially Owned By Chinese Company? by Talawaka: 10:35am On Jan 27, 2023
The Chinese own 5 ports in the USA - fact.
Mind you, 80% of ports in that country are also foreign-owned - fact.

It is a new dawn. cool

A powerhouse in global trade, China has more shipping ports at home than any other country. Key investments add about another 100 ports in at least 60 nations. And Beijing is looking for more.

Bro 75% is way too much compared the flimsy tax. Creating jobs very good. If nigeria invested at least 600 million dollars it would have been perfect.

Your country is poor and dont have access to international finance, so the best way is to seek loans from china and also do some private government partnerships to build infrastructures.

He who brings the largest money, gets controlling stake.

Company tax is about 20% of profits. The fact you have 70% stake don't mean, you will make 70% profits. Company tax, insurance for employees, employees income taxes etc.

In Nigeria, the Corporate Income tax rate is a tax collected from companies. Its amount is based on the net income companies obtain while exercising their business activity, normally during one business year. The benchmark we use refers to the highest rate for Corporate Income. Revenues from the Corporate Tax Rate are an important source of income for the government of Nigeria.
Actual Previous Highest Lowest Dates Unit Frequency

This project was driven by Lagos state government, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, is one of the people that birth this vision, Nigerians from other states should vote in men with business acumen, intelligent men, that create commercially viable cities, rather than these greedy dummies they vote in. Such investment will touch the lives of millions of Lagosians and Nigerians, this is why Tinubu is great, not about importing and selling but creating economic viability, and boosting IGR for the state, providing quality service for Nigerians and increasing the volume of Nigeria's economic capacity. This is how you create national prosperity.

Corporate or company tax is how nations make money.

Do you know they charge some black footballers in Europe up to 30% in taxes on earnings?

What the government is doing is very intelligent, because government can't run companies, a good example was NEPA, and government run organizations, very corrupt, inept and inefficient. Allow private companies invest, tax them, because government don't have enough money to engage in all the profitable ventures, why allow it waste, when the government, economy and people benefits, these are companies that will last hundreds of years.
