The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Tuesday said it would withdraw the licenses of Point of Sale (PoS) agents found culpable of inflating the charges on customers who withdraw money from their POS in the state.
Daily Trust reports that POS operators in the state are collecting between N1000, N1500 and N2000 charges for every N5000 and N10,000 withdrawn by customers and N300 charges for every N1000.

Director, CBN Risk Management department, Blaise Ijebor, disclosed this yesterday while speaking with journalists on efforts of the apex bank and state government on ensuring the availability of cash in circulation.

According to him, the approved charge for every N5,000 is N100 and anything done contrary to the approved charges by the agents due to the current cash crisis is tantamount to punishing their fellow citizens.

According to him, they are aware that POS agents are engaging in all sorts of sharp practices by charging customers up to 30 percent before giving them money.

We are monitoring the situation and anyone caught would have his or her license withdrawn and would not be in the business because we are going around with the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

“Customer should not be agitated, there is no need for any tension because your money is safe in the bank for now just get the little cash you need while using alternative means available to make payment”

While assuring that the CBN is working with the state government to improve the situation, he said they have disbursed closed N1 billion to banks between Sunday and Tuesday so that the people can make a withdrawal

Ijebor: “We gave banks about N400m on Sunday, N200m on Monday, and on Tuesday(Today), we have given N460m. So, we are pushing out money.”

I support the CBN on this one.... They should not just withdraw their license, but also throw some of them into prison and use them as a scapegoat.

Country Bad, Country Bad, but you still dey press your fellow citizen for neck, looking for ways to extort each other.

If you check those POS agents giving this ridiculous charges, they always look unkempt, lack courtsey and look stupid.

Were they given license in the first place

So if you did not give it what do U want to withdraw

Anybody can get pos for his or her business and they pos can also be use for pos business

CBN mob 2.7tr as at last Sunday and only printed 900bn in an election period that politicians need all the cash they can get is a policy that will guarantee public unrest and protest but unfortunately the same CBN is now going after POS and banks for its own policy failure

CBN should accept its policy failure and work a good solution not going after POS and banks

CBN has told d masses to bear with them
Bubu has told d masses that d fight is not against d masses, rather d corrupt politicians, terrorism and banditry.
Politicians are telling d masses that d fight is against d masses.
For d very first time politicians are fighting and d masses felt d fight is for them. Our mumu never do?
Of recent, u hardly hear about kidnapping
Of recent, no more massive crowd in rallies
Of recent, d rate of begging has reduced
Of recent, d rate of Owo mi da has reduced
Of recent, no more "Oga anything for boys"
Does it mean that we hv too many idiots that can't reason objectively in dis kantri?

.

Noted.

"Nobody will be allowed to mobilise resources and thugs to intimidate people in any constituency." -- Buhari
APC created a Big Monster by allowing a questionable character like Tinubu emerge as Flagbearer (by influencing delegates with money).
Now APC, in trying to curb the Big Monster, created another Monster that is suffering Nigerians.

Nigerians must reject APC. cool

Nice move for the time being.

Most POS in my area are owned by bankers. Once bullion van come drop money, they first make their own withdrawals before loading the rest in the ATM machine.

Sometimes, very little (money) is left after they are done with their operation. So people are forced to go and use POS.

As usual, na the innocent ones among them go suffer am.

Always doing the wrong things
POS people are buying money, what did you expect them to do?
Over 20 POS kiosks in my street have all closed shops because they can't access cash

Some of these POS agents spend 14 to 16 hours trying to get money from ATMs and banks. Some of them even bribe their ways just to get some cash and CBN thinks they will just continue with #100 charge for 5k? Las Las all POS agents will pack up and the woes will be quadrupled.

Wrong move, you don't make a service more scarce when there is already scarcity.... At the same time:

If Nigerian politicians are so disturbed about the currency Policy then Emefiele and Buhari got something right for the people this time

CBN always taking the wrong steps.
They caused inaccessibility of cash forcing POS operators to buy cash. I know an agent that said he bought 10,000 for 1,300 and he put his own charges at 1,500 for every 10,000 withdrawn.

People struggle to get money at ATM only to get between 2-5k per person.

Make cash available to the public and all these problems will die a natural death.

It is all CBN and the commercial bank fault.

Face the root cause and not just the complications.
