In Nigeria’s presidential and National Assembly elections held on Saturday, several incumbent legislators lost their bids for re-election while some newcomers also failed to secure legislative seats. Among those who won were the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, Deputy Speaker Ahmed Wase, Majority Leader Alhassan Ado-Doguwa, Deputy Minority Leader Peter Akpatason, and Majority Whip Mohammed Monguno. However, the Minority Leader Ndudi Elumelu, Deputy Majority Leader Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, and Deputy Minority Whip Abdulmajid Adekoya were defeated.


In Kano State, Abba Ganduje, the son of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, lost the election for Tofa/Rimin Gado/Dawakin Tofa Federal Constituency to Tijjani Jobe of the New Nigeria Peoples Party. In Delta State, Erhriatake Ibori-Suenu of the PDP won the Ethiope Federal Constituency seat, defeating incumbent Ben Igbakpa of the New Nigerian Peoples Party. Ibori-Suenu is the daughter of former Delta State Governor James Ibori.

In Nasarawa State, Senator Godiya Akwashiki of the Social Democratic Party won the Nasarawa North Senatorial District seat. In Jigawa State, the opposition PDP won the Dutse/Kiyawa Federal Constituency seat, with Alhaji Dahiru Katika emerging as the winner. In Kano State, Hamisu Chidari of the APC won the Danbatta/Makoda Federal Constituency seat, while Adamu Sani of the NNPP won the Minjibir/Ungogo Federal Constituency seat.
