How? And her parents wanted to pay out of pocket for surgery?

It was in a private trust not an NHS hospital.

If it was here in Nigeria, you would have said it was politically motivated.
The whole country would have been reeked with protests and twist the narrative to religion, ethnicity, etc.....

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/mar/23/nigerian-politician-wife-doctor-guilty-organ-trafficking-uk-ike-ekweremadu
In February 2022 the man was falsely presented to a private renal unit at Royal Free hospital in London as Sonia’s cousin in a failed attempt to persuade medics to carry out an £80,000 transplant. For a fee, a medical secretary at the hospital acted as an Igbo interpreter between the man and the doctors to help try to convince them he was an altruistic donor, the court heard.

The prosecutor Hugh Davies KC told the court the Ekweremadus and Obeta had treated the man and other potential donors as “disposable assets – spare parts for reward”. He said they entered an “emotionally cold commercial transaction” with the man.

The behaviour of Ekweremadu, a successful lawyer and founder of an anti-poverty charity who helped draw up Nigeria’s laws against organ trafficking, showed “entitlement, dishonesty and hypocrisy”, Davies told the jury.

He said Ekweremadu, who owns several properties and had a staff of 80, “agreed to reward someone for a kidney for his daughter – somebody in circumstances of poverty and from whom he distanced himself and made no inquiries, and with whom, for his own political protection, he wanted no direct contact”.

Re: Ekweremadu, Wife, Doctor Found Guilty Of Organ Trafficking by omonnakoda: 1:21am On Mar 25, 2023
Davies added: “What he agreed to do was not simply expedient in the clinical interests of his daughter, Sonia, it was exploitation, it was criminal. It is no defence to say he acted out of love for his daughter. Her clinical needs cannot come at the expense of the exploitation of somebody in poverty.”

Ekweremadu, who denied the charge, told the court he was the victim of a scam. Obeta, who also denied the charge, claimed the man was not offered a reward for his kidney and was acting altruistically. Beatrice denied any knowledge of the alleged conspiracy. Sonia did not give evidence.

WhatsApp messages shown to the court revealed Obeta charged Ekweremadu 4.5m naira (about £8,000) made up of an “agent fee” and a “donor fee”.

Ekweremadu and Obeta admitted falsely claiming the man was Sonia’s cousin in his visa application and in documents presented to the hospital.

Davies said Ekweremadu ignored medical advice to find a donor for his daughter among genuine family members. He said: “At no point in time was there ever any intention for a family member close, medium or distant to do what could be paid for from a pool of donors.”

The judge, Mr Justice Jeremy Johnson, will pass sentence on 5 May.

The chief crown prosecutor, Joanne Jakymec, said: “This was a horrific plot to exploit a vulnerable victim by trafficking him to the UK for the purpose of transplanting his kidney.

“The convicted defendants showed utter disregard for the victim’s welfare, health and wellbeing and used their considerable influence to a high degree of control throughout, with the victim having limited understanding of what was really going on here.”

DI Esther Richardson, from the Metropolitan police’s modern slavery and exploitation command, said: “This is a landmark conviction and we commend the victim for his bravery in speaking against these offenders.”

That boy obviously lied, but here in the UK thsse guys don't joke with such things. If you come with your kid to my hospital and I see that he has some questionable injuries I am mandated to report you without your notice.

That boy has attracted a huge curse on himself and his lineage for what he has done. I don't think he was deceived. He lied about his age. He lied about everything else. And now they will also grant him asylum in the UK because he'll say he fears for his life in Nigeria. But has he escaped? No, never!

His age is immaterial to the case.

Go back and read the verdict, nothing the boy said was factored into the verdict. It was not the boy that misrepresented himself as a cousin to the embassy for visa procurement and to the hospital.

Let’s also remember that, the IKE also lied, and their lies is more material to the case, because they did it to Government Authorities and did knowingly so as to make the guy eligible as a donor under UK donor laws under the criteria of their application.

Donors who are family members are less scrutinized and encouraged, hence he was passed on as a Cousine…..had they told the Authorities that he is a ‘street hustler’ as he is been painted now and have no blood relationship to the family, his visa would have been denied and the hospital would not even waste their time interviewing him.

their own daughter is now like a curse to them.may we never regret having kids. Even after the jail term he is crippled forever. It’s quite unfortunate.

Stop blaming the daughter. They have other kids which they couldn't persuade to donate a Kidney instead of looking for disposable. They could have simply done the transplant here in Nigeria after getting their disposable but instead decided to export their lawlessness and wickedness.

That boy is a wicked boy he won’t end well.

That God saved him from being exploited by moneybags who saw the opportunity to capitalise on poverty they created? He's already ending well, idiot.
He wouldn't have ended well if their plan to exploit him had succeeded. Can that kid maintain one kidney?

U dey mind Ignorant Naija wannabe oppressors. With power and money,Most Nigerians would do like Ekweremadus…
Ike is the most knowledgeable and superior person and exploiter here. The boy didnt get to see his visa/passport until when they got the aiport. Ike anx his cronies, filled the passport and visa info for him.
How many street traders in Naija can navigate passport and visa applications without a knowledgeable agent?
It could as well be that the boy is unaware of his exact age. The young man has had a tough life. I’m not sure if he finished primary school.. no wonder they had to use interpreter to translate for him.
Most Nigerians dont care about injustice until it’s done to them.
British judiciary has now recorded 100% conviction against Naija politrickian-Alamaseigha, Ibori, Ekweremadu and co

Good point.

She CANNOT be a British citizen and the parents will be willing to pay £80,000 for a surgery that is FREE for all citizens or those with indefinite leave to remain in the UK.

Healthcare is free from cradle to grave in the UK if you are a citizen or you have indefinite leave to remain in the UK.

Anyone siding with the Ekweremadu and blaming the victim, I pray none of your loved ones ever fall victim to evil rich selfish Nigerian politicians who are only out to use you for spare parts and disposable assets.

This is profound and deep but there is not yet a critical mass of Nigerians that realise that our evil politicians see the rest of us as their servants - a large populace of people they have held down with corruption induced weaponized poverty and the attendant Stockholm syndrome that the victims will even stand up for their oppressors who will never give the masses a living wage or true dividends of democracy as to do that will i) narrow the gap between them and their teeming servants and ii) mean that they now have less people to use as servants, drivers, cooks and political thugs.

Its not looking rosy for Nigerians and what baffles me is how someone like Sowore will get only 14, 000 or so votes across the whole country ??

Are Nigerians sticklers for punishment or do they have a pact with poverty and servitude ?

See the kind of criminals leading us in Nigeria. ?

Haba. How can a collective 200 million people progress when venomous vipers like these are in power

See the contempt our politicians have for the poor Nigerian masses they have almost destroyed with corruption induced weaponized poverty. ?

Ekweremadu did not even think of putting his own family
in harms way as a donor but knew weaponized poverty meant there are millions of desperate poor people in Nigeria who will risk their lives in an operation that carries a 50% chance of death. ??

Not just indefinite leave to remain and citizenship, to a degree those with any form of residency enjoy free health. Although health insurance is paid before issuance of visa, it is by and large, precipital to health services offered by the UK.

The payment of health insurance before issuance of visas is relatively recent and was brought in 8 years ago. Prior to this, even if you no get papers and it will cost 10 billion pounds to save your life, the British national health service will save your life at no cost to you and this is why they at times deny visa to the wives of British citizens say for instance from Nigeria if she shows up heavily pregnant at the visa interview. Their logic is to delay the woman so she has the baby in Nigeria at no cost to their NHS even though they will still grant the woman the spousal visa after birth.

The immigration health surcharge was introduced by the Cameron–Clegg coalition by the Immigration (Health Charge) Order 2015, made under the provisions of the Immigration Act 2014, to deal with the issue of medical tourism involving the NHS in England. Once the surcharge is paid people are entitled to use the NHS in a similar way to UK residents.

Evidence presented during the trial proved that the young man didn’t plot against the Ekeweremadus, the Ekeweremadus plotted against him. Beatrice was terrible on the stand and her foul attitude caused her to answer the prosecutor’s questions in ways that aided the prosecution.

Any link to video of Beatrice on the stand? I thought that was her prison face
