I am glad countries the UK exist where laws are sacrosanct and bidding upon every citizen both foreign and domestic.
I wish your daughter speedy recovery and I pray the young Man gets justice

If you’re acting like this, then you’re also acting bias, just like every other politician. You may not like them, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t judge whatever happens to them based on your own natural self..

They didn’t commit a crime regarding that boy. Their crime was not following the proper channel upon getting to UK..

In Uk, you can't just take a kidney donor to hospital for a kidney transplant. There's a particular agency in charge of that..

When you take the donor to the the agency, the agency would do necessary process. Sometimes it takes 3-4 months before they'll or not certify a kidney donor to donate his/her kidney..

Also, it's illegal for an immigrant to donate kidney in UK. The boy isn't a UK residence. They put him in the plane from Nigeria and take him straight to hospital..

Their problem began the moment the UK doctor didn't see them bring in the donor via the proper UK process..

That was their mistake. The didn't smuggle the boy to UK. They just didn’t follow due process when they get to UK..

What is it you think they are being sentenced for?? Smiling at the boy??

Donating organs for monetary gain is illegal. Period. That's the law.

Paternal and maternal instincts at play.

Any sane parents can fall into this divine trap because most can't stand their children dying before their very eyes except if there is absolutely nothing they can do about it.

Besides, even if they are truly guilty as charged, they weren't planning to commit murder at least. It was just a case of understanding between them and the young lad. Though I ain't supporting such extremity, it's just a classical case of how parents can go crazy because of their children.
I don't feel for naija politicians. They should die in jail

I can agree with you if that were his last option ... but it was his first and only choice. The first option should've been family members ... but noooo ... he can't run risk with their precious Iives. Guess only heaven knows how many lives he wasted in the hunt for a match. They all deserve what they will get.

Most parents who can afford it will tow that line in Nigeria and that's the truth. However, the guy should have just said no to their proposal and moved on IMO
The politician should have asked the family members or at least helped build functional hospital or moved on. Do you think anyone would agree if Nigeria is well run? Na beg Oyibo dey beg here for the right to harvest you when you're dying.

Pretty Sonia needed a Kidney transplant.

A 21 year old man was brought in from Lagos as the donor after matching kidneys were confirmed through a middle-man (a doctor who has been convicted with the Ekweremadus).

He was promised £7,000 pounds to sell his kidney.

At the hospital, the doctor in charge of the surgical operation interviewed the donor/victim.

One of the requirements for the surgery was that the donor can afford life-long medical care that comes with living with one kidney.

The donor/victim couldn't give assurances that he could afford life-long medical care and he wasn't briefed about the pros and cons of the process before he accepted to come to the UK.

The donor/victim walked into a police station and made a report.

Ekweremadu, his wife and the middle man doctor were arrested.

Under UK laws, organ donors are not to be paid for donating their organs. They are to do so voluntarily without charge.

The Modern Slavery Act enacted by parliament in 2015 was violated.

Ekweremadu, his wife and middle man doctor have been convicted.

They await sentencing which could be as severe has life imprisonment.

The donor/victim has been granted asylum because his safety in Nigeria cannot be guaranteed.

Pretty Sonia the sick girl has been discharged and acquitted by the court. She still hopes for a kidney donor.

The case is the first of its kind in the UK and the conviction is a landmark achievement since the enactment of the Modern Slavery Act in 2015.

Sonia is so pretty, kind-hearted and harmless 💕💕💕💕. I'm depressed. I feel for her. She'll live with the guilt of destroying her own parents 😢😭😭😭
they were just unlucky its the UK. If it was Nigeria all this drama and noise warranted

What is bad is bad
Let's be frank
I pity them but they were not smart at all they are evil. They have the money and could have made it public in Nigeria asking for a donor with a handsome reward.
I am too sure thousands of Nigerian youths would have been interested. Guys need money and wan travel out as well so, some guys would see it as an opportunity to cash out and also have an access to British visa.
20M or 30M would have gotten them a willing donor.

If you have good comprehension skill, you wouldn't write what you wrote after reading that piece. The likes of Ekweremandu has bastardised the Nigerian education system that many like you can not read thoroughly and understand a passage. You read half way through with a lot slavic emotion.

They didn't commit any crime regarding the boy, but the long and short is that they committed a crime. As a cold hearted uncaring man (towards those he didn't consider his family), he deserves everything he gets. A man of his standing, a lawyer and a member of a legislative house for years ought not thread the path he threaded. May the good Lord give them fortitude to bear their pain and also the strength to serve their terms an come out changed people. It may be the God's way of showing them the correct way of living, that is if they are willing to learn though.

If you’re kind and caring to your own…

Exactly bro! So what if the dude taken from the streets died during surgery?
After all, he’s only good for “human spare parts” and has lived to see London. SMH

PS: Nothing to do with immigration status. It is ILLEGAL to pay for (or otherwise financially induce) human organs in the UK (and in most CIVILIZED nations, which is probably why some Nigerians are puzzled by the trial and verdict).

And that’s ok because the “paternal and maternal instincts” of the young lad’s parents are irrelevant?
Virtually all “sane parents” of the thousands of people who need kidneys do not use others for human “spare parts”!

Of course, they were well aware the dude could just as easily die on the operating table…
Which was probably why (despite advice from the UK doctors), they didn’t use any of their own family or relatives.

We can sympathize with sick persons without empathizing with their EVIL deeds…
It is Disgusting, Disgraceful and Despicable to go to the streets to hunt for humans to use for LITERALLY “spare parts”!

Look at it the other way round, how would you have felt if you find out one day that ur child sold his kidney for N4.8m and now he is almost dying cos the money wasn't even enough for him to take care of himself after the donation. How would u see Ekeremadu. Would you still say he did the right thing. Your don't sacrifice another man's child to save your child. Please read
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-65015489

Ekweremadu is a lawyer, He knew exactly what he was doing
He was advised to seek a family donor but totally disregarded that advice
He used the doctor as a middle man so as to create room for deniability and did not have any contact with the young man initially.
The fee was £8000 of which £6000 was going to the doctor and £2000 to the boy.
They arranged a visa for the boy claiming he was Sonia's cousin
Sometimes too much sense can make a person stupid . For them it was all business and even the doctor was out to exploit the boy
That Same doctor already had a transplant under similar circumstances and his donor is living in poverty in the UK.
They assume Oyinbo are stupid. Before they remove your kidney they have serious protocols
One of which is an interview. Imagine a doctor interviewing a donor discovering that the donor was hearing the name EKWEREMADU for the first time
The problem with many people commenting here is lack of exposure. They only known the lawlessness of Nigeria and are clueless about a system where there are rules.
The doctor would want to know why are you doing this? Why would anyone donate their kidney?
Spend 5 minutes to imagine an interview where you are trying to convince a stranger why you are donating your kidney, what would you tell them? You hardly know anything about the recipient,so is it love kinship or what?
They will ask you have you been paid
There is a form for that where it is all documented . If we assume that the boy agreed to be paid then he was not properly coached for that interview. He failed the interview and the doctor was not convinced
All this while the boy was not staying at Ekweremadu s luxury home he was sleeping on a couch at the doctors flat .
It really is a very shameful story for NIgeria, that and for those of us who still have shame
It reveals a very wicked people who have no value for human life if they have more money than you.
I am sorry I feel no pity for Ekweremadu. None He is a ruthless person with no human feelings
