Nigeria More Divided Than Civil War Era – Sanusi by Spuggie: 6:49am On Apr 05, 2023
The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Muhammed Sanusi, has said Nigeria has never been this divided since the Civil War of 1967 to 1970.

He said the country, because of the elections, was now “dangerously divided along ethnic and religious lines”, adding that it had put the integrity of public institutions in question.

“The people now have suspicions about policies, policing, judiciary and the election umpire,” he said.

Sanusi made the remarks on Tuesday at the third Nigerian Leadership Colloquium in honour of the senior pastor of Trinity House, Lagos, Ituah Ighodalo, who turned 62.

The event, which held on Tuesday in Lagos, was tagged “A new Nigeria: Leadership imperatives for radical growth and transformation”.

Sanusi, in his address via Zoom, stated that the country now had a challenge of nation building, adding that the economy was now in the doldrums.

He said, “In October 2022, speaking at the Kaduna Investment Forum, I told Nigerians that if anyone told them that dealing with Nigeria post-2023 would be easy, they should not vote for that person. I meant it.
“I don’t think Nigeria has been in a place as difficult as this since the civil war. We have a challenge of nation building.

“We have a country that has been divided dangerously along ethnic and religious lines.

“We have an economy that is in the doldrums, and unfortunately, we seem to be having a dearth of leadership.”

According to him, beyond defining the kind of leaders the country needs, it also needs to look critically at the process through which the leaders emerge.

“No process is perfect. We have seen so in the United Kingdom and the United States. At the very least, the people should know who they are voting for. I think we need to begin to look at the Electoral Act, 2022 much more earlier than elections. We need to have a system where one cannot just go to participate in party primaries without being exposed to public scrutiny. This is what happens everywhere. People need to know what they are voting for. In other climes, they are compelled by law to participate in public debates to discuss issues of policy.

“This is the only country I know where we elect a President first before knowing if he knows what he is doing or whether he understands what the job is,” he added.

He also said the process through which Nigerians choose their leaders must be more transparent.

Amir Sanisi, What have you done to speak the truth about the Muslim- muslim tickets before now? Did you enlighten your people for the need of Unity in diversity?

These crop of political leaders today are selfish and too desperate.

Abiola, Aare Ona Kakanfo that won an election was arrested and detained by FG talkless of a distant third loser wailing over the land shouting "Yes Daddy" "Thank You Daddy" preaching religious war and anarchy. By the time law catches up with you, you will sing ON YOUR MANDATE WE SHALL STAND BOLA!

These sanctimonious pretenders will always be the hypocrites while perpetuating the grand agenda of religion. The Bola Tinubu-Shettima Muslim-Muslim ticket, the Islamic cleric that said "the muslim-muslim ticket is a call to Islamic jihad, the killing of Deborah Samuel in Sokoto does not sound like ethno-religious supremacist sentiments to them.

Apc’s Muslim-muslim Ticket Is Call To Jihad – Kano Islamic Preacher, Auwal.
Tinubu APC’s Muslim-Muslim Ticket Is Call To Jihad, Shows Supremacy Of Islam To Christianity In Nigeria – Kano Preacher, Auwal, Tells Congregation To Vote Massively for Tinubu to declare Jihad on Christians if he wins.

At a special prayer session organised by Muslim clerics in Kano, Northwest, Nigeria, for the success of Bola Tinubu's candidacy, Auwal informed that the Tinubu/Shettima’s Muslim/Muslim ticket had defined the supremacy of Islam.

A Nigerian Islamic preacher, Abdulmutallab Mohammed Auwal, has charged Muslims to consider the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its Muslim/Muslim ticket as a call to Jihad.

At a special prayer session organised by Muslim clerics in Kano, Northwest, Nigeria, for the success of Bola Tinubu's candidacy, Auwal informed that the Tinubu/Shettima’s Muslim/Muslim ticket had defined the supremacy of Islam. He, accordingly urged all Muslim voters, to overwhelmingly vote the Tinubu/Shettima, Muslim/Muslim ticket on the day of election.

"This meeting was convened by our group, Islamic Preachers and we've invited about 75 Muslim groups, including the Kaduna State Izala and the Jos (Plateau state) Izala, the Salafiya, Kadariya, IMWAN, Muslims in Da'awa, Women in Da'awa. Also here are groups like Yoruba and Igbo Muslim groups. Last but not the least, we have here the Kano Imams' group.

"The import of today's sitting is to let the clerics and indeed all Muslim leaders know that the Muslim/ Muslim ticket is not about mere promises of bringing dividends of democracy like road and infrastructure. This ticket is about the supremacy of Islam. This ticket has honoured Islam. Therefore, we'll honour it with our ballots.

"Furthermore, remember that a Muslim is always better than an infidel. What more of two Muslims combined? This informed why we undertook to create this awareness and to let all of us know that this Muslim/Muslim ticket is a jihad call to all Muslims," Auwal said.

Another cleric, who is the leader of Izala sect in Kano, Sheikh Abdallah Saleh Pakistan, disclosed that Tinubu had over a long time promoted the enthronement of a Muslim/Muslim candidate. He said, "We've discussed extensively on how this candidate (Tinubu) has for a long time strived to actualise the Muslim/Muslim ticket. He paired Nuhu Ribadu with a Muslim Yoruba back then and was also instrumental to the Abiola/Kingibe, Muslim/Muslim ticket."

On his part, Kano State Governor, Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, asserted that the Tinibu/Shettima ticket would be supported by all Muslims, insisting that the practice was not new in the country.

"Muslim/Muslim ticket is not new to Nigeria. The Abiola/Kingibe Muslim/Muslim was overwhelmingly voted Muslims and it succeeded. Unfortunately a military junta nullified the victory. Another opportunity is here and thank God we're now in democracy; no one can annul the election," Ganduje averred.

Politicians are trying to keep the people divided because they can't fight a united Nigeria.

Why are they still campaigning against Obi and not Atiku if they are confident that they won the election. The truth cannot be buried.

When they Yoruba Apc are busy Turing everything to religious war all in bid to solicit friendship with the Muslim north..

When the Yoruba Apc are busy calling a party an Igbo party IPOB party.. trying hard to divide Nigerians along ethnic lines .. na only igbos give Labour Party over 6 million votes and 12 states

When the Yoruba are fighting hard to propagate a Muslim Muslim ticket and presidency even in the mist of chaos and intolerance, distrust and killings around the country .. just for their dead ambition?

When the Yoruba Apc is busy fighting hard for the international community to legalize illegality.. and yet ignored daily by the international community because of the obvious

When the Yoruba Apc is propagating heavy lies .. just to impose a drug baron and ex convict on Nigerians .. with checking the consequences and knowing the consequences

Why won’t Nigeria divide ..when some people are beating hard the drums of war just to spite a due process ..

No one is decieved..

Not even the people they see as messiah’s..

I am not going to say much....

But soon as the herdsmen and other terrorists assume their duties of killing recklessly.... I will be here to speak.

We know that the viral Patience Jonathan video was made on the day she interviewed the Principal of Chibok's girls that was kidnapped.

It wasn't long from there, Shettima made the Principal a commissioner under his government.

Voting a drug lord and a terrorist into power brings nothing but trouble upon troubles.

I hope that we will some day be enlightened to vote beyond tribe and religion. Because we go see shege and banza for this government weh wan enter so.

Two "enemies" cannot live together in harmony, unless they know each other, & have fought each other. Our division is a blessing in disguise.

Different tribes were forced together during colonisation so can there be unity in a forced marriage. Unless the different tribes come together under agreed terms of cooperation like the EC then things can never change.

Hmm

1.No we are not that divided.

2.The problem is simple.

Nigerians believe in something called a national cake. And if your tribe wins the election, you get to control the division of the national cake and your tribesmen get first dibs.

3.That is why we are having the whole screaming from Peter Obi supportters. They feel they have been denied their share of the national cake. And why tinubu supporters are happy despite the irregularities in the election. They feel they are now in charge of the cake now.

That is why we have had problems since independence. It is why we had the pogroms of 1966, the civil war, and myriad of crisis in the 1970's 1980's and 1990's and even now. National cake things.

I know some people would say we were united in the 1970's and 80's...but that was because the army was in power and was seen as 'neutral'. Also, when the politicans get overthrown, everyone is back to a state of 'Yeah we all have no access to power'

That is, unitl people started complaining that it was dominated by Northerners...

The truth is, there is no national cake. Development comes by fiscal discipline via massive taxation, massive removal of subsides, and massive industrial and scientific development.

And I guarantee that if we split Nigeria, the problem will remain.
