Building Collapses In Mushin, Lagos; Four Confirmed Dead by Odewaleadesoye(m): 5:12pm On Apr 07, 2023
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Friday confirmed that four persons died while one was rescued in the building collapse at Oye Sonuga Street, Palm Avenue, in Mushin, Lagos.

The NEMA South West Zonal Coordinator, Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in a telephone interview.

He said two males and two females died, while one person was rescued in the building collapse.

Earlier, the Lagos State Government also said it would investigate the cause of the building collapse.

The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr Omotayo Bamgbose-Martins, while visiting the site of the three storey building, directed that the building be pulled down immediately for safety reasons and to forestall further collapse.

He also ordered the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) and the Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory to unravel the cause of the collapse.

This thing is becoming a norm in Lagos. Lagos landlord can't even find a way way because he want to collect levy

Potential home owners have been inclined to believe that a bricklayer with 20years experience is better to handle their project than a fresh out of school qualified structural engineer.

Sometimes it just boils down to personal greed because even a qualified engineer can still go for substandard materials

Same Oye street again in Palm avenue. Developers are the main issue concerning all this building collapsing here in Lagos state, they are all bent on using substandard materials since they know they are not the real owner of the buildings

It's a building under construction. There is no way regulatory agencies can be on every building site 247.

Our people will submit designs and correct quantity survey for approval and then buy inferior materials later.

This get-rich-quick syndrome is killing us all. RIP to the dead 😪

It can be mitigated when knowledge and experience is involved

In addition, some houses in Lagos, are built on Waterlogged Areas and they actually need strong foundations and pillars!

That wuru tribalist and outdated professor should stop disturbing our well deserved peace. Tharmt man kept quit when oluomo and his hoodlums were threatening Igbos, snatching ballot boxes and destroying people's properties. That cult grand patron made no statement nor condemned them. The world can clearly see who this berebe truly is.

If you want to build house in Nigeria, monitor the process from start to finish. Use of substandard products coupled with builders who prioritize quickness over safety leads to situations like this.

This is what i keep saying, It's very important to adhere proffesional ethics and ensure total compliance to building codes by not compromising on the structual integrity of your building just because you want to cut cost...
