Igbos should participate in census wherever they are – Ohanaeze counters IPOB

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo on Sunday urged the Igbo to participate in the forthcoming national population census wherever they are located.

Ohanaeze’s remark is contrary to the call by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, that Igbos should return to the South East for the forthcoming national census.
IPOB in its directive said the census would be used as a mock referendum for Biafra.

However, the Secretary-General of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, in an Easter message to Igbo people, said the ethnic group should participate effectively in the census wherever they are located.

A statement by Isiguzoro reads partly: “Ndigbo should remain wherever they are and participate effectively in the forthcoming national census.

“The National Population Commission, NPC, must include religion and ethnicity as part of the data to be captured during the enumeration since it is in line with the wishes of the majority of Nigerians today who appreciate the importance of such data in our national life.”

Isiguzoro also urged security agents, IPOB, and the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, to work against insecurity in the South East.

“All stakeholders in the security of Ala-Igbo including our governors, traditional rulers, bishops/religious leaders, and most importantly, non-state actors such as IPOB, MASSOB, ESN, UGM, etc [must] work together to end insecurity in our homeland,” he added.

LMAO... Fake info concocted in Alausa. Igbos aren't only good enough for census in Lagos while you vehemently refused them their civic rights of voting. We aren't spectators but complete participants in everything we do. We will participate in places where our rights are respected. Besides, Ndigbo are not the only ethnic group in Nigeria. Allow us to do our choice. You have done yours already.

Tbh, the best move should be to be counted in your region of origin. The numbers will affect allocation and negotiation, generally. If you get counted in another region, you will improve that region's negotiation power. Yet, this won't stop them from telling you to go back to your region when election season comes.
Anyways, it's up to the Igbos to decide their politicking strategy.

Rubbish. I am going back to the east with my family members to be counted, I will return to Lagos after the census. Since my vote does not count in Lagos, I will also not do census in Lagos.
