This topic is long overdue but I feel I do not have enough resources to do it justice.

We shall begin with Fani Kayode's famous line "the new found trust and alliance between the people of the SW and the people of the NORTH shall never again be broken"

Now one might ask when did this trust exist and who broke it...

Perhaps it was when Usman Dan Fodio declared a jihad on the Oyo Empire or maybe when Tafewa Balewa sentenced Awolowo to ten years imprisonment, or maybe when Sani Abacha killed MKO Abiola, however none of this is important what matters is the geopolitics of Nigeria presently and what is responsible for the 'new found trust' , the answer is very simple and complicated 'IGBOS'...

Igbos are one of the major tribes in nigeria but unlike the other major tribes, igbos lack a central structure and this lack of central structure is both a great strength and a greater weakness..

Yorubas leaders no longer have to just worry about the ambition of Northerners they now also have to worry about the ambition of Easterners...

It's a tight situation, it's like choosing between a mad enemy and a smart enemy, the mad enemy is mad so you can't reason with him, the smart enemy on the other can be reasoned with, however he can also plan and aim more effectively on how to bring your destruction.

For now Yoruba leaders have picked the smart enemy and they hope that by convincing them they have the same enemy and goals perhaps this smart enemy would not destroy them...

but there's a tiny tiny flaw in this plan, this plan only works as long as Igbo leaders do not try to form some kind of alliance with Northerners and as long as Northerners perceive Igbos as a threat, so no matter how they ally with the North they also have to carefully make sure Igbos don't change course and they also have to buff up igbos so they don't appear too weak and non threatening, they have to keep the embers of hatred alive from time to time between these two groups.

But fortunately things are going well - a bit too well, the Oyo Empire is finally rising again, but in the long run only time will tell.
