England is a country just as Nigeria, and its capital is London just like Abuja is the capital of Nigeria.

Great Britain is a collection of 3 countries which came together as one country and has its capital as London. Those 3 countries are:

1. England,
2. Scotland and
3. Wales.

When you include Northern Ireland to these 3 countries, they become United Kingdom (union of four nations) Viz:
1. England,
2. Scotland,
3. Wales, and
4. Northern Ireland.

That is why it is referred to as the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Collectively, it is taken as a country. And when this is the case, London is its capital.

Note however that the individual nations all have their own respective capitals.

Accordingly, the capital of
Scotland is Edinburgh,
Wales is Cardiff; Northern Ireland is Belfast;
England is London.

Ps : Northern Ireland is not to be mistaken for the Republic of Ireland. The latter is a separate country. Its capital is Dublin.

The Prime minister is like an administrator a representative leadet to govern international relations concerning the British

England are the majority followed by Scotland and the Ireland

The same way the Hausa are majority in Nigeria followed by Yoruba and Igbo

When our people say UK, they mean England.

Front page material. I recommend for Nairaland to make it a deliberate effort to always push informative topics especially from the education and technology section. The forum supposed to be a citadel of learning and knowledge. It will help improve a lot of IQ and people will be enlightened not all this 'woman wears transparent dress'

I don't think England, Wales or Scotland can be referred to as Countries, as in a state. Is there an English, Welsh or Scottish passport or citizen? Is there an English, Welsh or Scottish Military? Is there an English, Welsh or Scottish embassy or high commission in any country? The point is that we can best refer to them as Nations. There's a difference between a nation and a country even though they can be similar in some cases.

Just that, those nations agreed to operate independently in certain matters like football, for example. The Igbo or Yoruba nation can do the same too, as long as FIFA accepts and the country, Nigeria is OK with it. I just hope I'm not sounding too stupid sha...
