This beautiful toy is made using recycled plastics. Why can't Nigeria also do same instead of blocking our drainages with plastics especially in a mega city like Lagos?

Did anyone stop you from doing it ? The toy you posted was it done by government or individual

This is my point Nigerians are socialist in nature they want government to set up factory n employ then ....that's what most Nigerians want deep down

But on paper we are capitalist

Only Igbos n fee tribes are capitalist reason they are seen as aggressive , dominating, and overbearing ....this are qualities you need to survive in a capitalist economy

What exactly do we want capitalist system where individuals control business
Or socialist with government owned businesses

It is not saturated yet. We have millions tons of plastic waste daily in the country. The FG can encourage the private sector with a huge investment.

Must every discussion be about tribes?

Are you saying that ONLY Igbos set up Factories in Nigeria?

Do you know how many tons of Iron and Steel are produced through recycled metals at Ife Iron &Steel Ltd, Ile-Ife and Prism Iron &Steel, Ikirun, both in Osun State?

Actually,Waste Collection, Waste Disposal and Waste Management is a responsibility of the Local Gov't and State Governments.

In London, every house has at Major three waste drums and one minor waste drum.

The three major drums are colour coded;
Red lid= Bottles ,Plastics & Cans
Blue lid= Papers
Grey lid= General Waste

Small drum= Food & Kitchen wastes

The Waste Management Companies come on appointed days to take these wastes and about 75% are recycled.

Start the business, write a business case and submit to your local council, you might get a grant to start the business or they can connect you with start up investors.

You don’t always have to wail or wait for the government to do everything for you. You start the initiative and encourage your government to join you in fighting flooding issues in mega cities like Lagos.

you are right. Plastic recycling is big business and every where.
What I think govt should do is give low interest loans to plastic recycling startups to help them grow into consumers of such menacing plastics and clean up the society as well as ecosystem.

But its already a big issue. Truth is plastic recycling at the moment is very low. Without proper government intervention it will remain same. Rwanda is a good example.

What do you say about people that dump the plastics anywhere and anyhow they like after use?.. we need a form of behavioural/attitudinal change and volunteerism to solve the first part of this challenge.

Plastic pollution is a global challenge and it is projected that by 2050, we would have more plastics than fishes and other marine animals in the oceans and marine habitats. The world needs to take the issue of "RECYCLING" and EPR (Extended Producers Responsibility) serious for plastic manufacturing companies to take responsibility for their products lifecycle from cradle to grave.

Plastic takes over 400yrs to degrade in the environmemt which means that the ones produced like 4 centuries back are still with us while the ones being produced now will still be in existence long after we are gone.

Plastics include your PET bottles for coke etc., PVC pipes, microplastics used in toothpastes, drums, gallons, buckets, packers, chairs, tables, coolers, cups, plates, spoons, takeaway packs, fabrics, nylon bags, sachet water packs, phone parts, electronics parts, car parts and other packaging materials.

We must act now!

Tribes difference is fundamental to why Africa can't develop because we have far different value system to be forced into an attempt to make a nation instead of a country of ourselves

My argument never said there were not exception or did it say only Igbos are capitalist nor did it say all Igbos are capitalist

The introduction of tribe in the post was unnecessary.

In all States, there are people who set up Factories.

Africa is not developing because they are not thinking in the 21st century.

For any country to develop in any particular direction, at least 60% of the people in that country must be looking in that direction and believe in that change.

You don't get it, the FG will provide the supervisory for private sector to excel. Ministry of science and technology must show the political will to make this happen. Ogbonanya Onu did nothing for almost 8 years.

But same Africans go outside n grow ?

To succeed you need agreement to follow a particular part

To agree you need a common value system

How can you tell a northern Muslim that he needs to stop marrying 14 year old girls , leave Islamic schools n go to scientific schools ...they prefer a nation governed by Islam is that a lie ?

Yorubas prefer a government where government play prominent role ,build industries ,control trade etc

Igbos prefer a nation where private players control the economy

Is any one superior to the other ? I don't know but u can't mix three of this people n expect growth

Nigeria is a Federation of States.

Each State has considerable powers to develop itself. For instance, what later became Dangote Cement,Obajana Kogi State was actually conceptualized by Kogi State Gov't as Obajana Cement but the State didn't nurture this dream into maturity and sold it to Dangote.

Most States are peopled by people of similar backgrounds and world views.

Since 1999, all States have ruled by their peoples but somehow, many people like you still feel that other Nigerians are the problems of your States.

Did the people agree on how to create the state ? You can't create random states for people force it down their throat n expect peace

Did the southern gombe ,yobe, brono Kaduna tell u th want to share states with Fulanis ?

U want to build sky scrappers on a faulty foundation ?

Name one state in Europe create for the people

1) There is no perfect Political State.

Even in Europe, almost all of the modern European Nations started from Ancient Kingdom/Empires set-up via military conquests of different peoples brought under common rules of the conquerors.
It may interest you to know that the UK, France, Germany, Italy didn't come about through any referendum but through the use of FORCE to bring several different people under one authority which eventually led to the establishment of a uniques national identity.

2) The history and background of different countries varies.

3) In Nigeria, apart from few States e.g Kaduna that are sharply polarized, most States are populated by people of similar culture, history and world views .
Fulanis have lived and settled among indigenous peoples in different States for centuries and will be impracticable to evict them.
Most peoples in Borno, Yobe and Bauchi States are descendants of the peoples of Kanem-Borno Empire.

Outside south east n South west the rest states are polarised

Bros I don't know why u and you likes are hell bent on making a system that has never worked in the history of mankind

Europe killed themselves for 3000 years only found peace when they were divided along ethnic lines

Every human know that nations structured along Ethnic lines ...look at India ... imagine the war that would happen if the practice our system

Even if it's a village of 2 people they have right to form their own governing region ...it they feel they are to small them n only them seek alliance

Let Nigeria be structured along ethnic lines ...we can have 6 regions ... each region structure alone ethics lines within the zone ...each unit semi independent to make their laws police themselves and control their resources ,.every ethnic group have have right to join any zone they wish

Nigeria / Africa can never develop unless wee are structured along ethnic lines ...it's impossible
