The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), South-east zone has described as unfounded, allegations that chieftains of the party from the zone were hatching a plot to ensure the removal of the Secretary to the Federal Government and former Senate President, Chief Anyim Pius Anyim from office.

National Vice Chairman of the party from the zone, Chief Olisa Metu yesterday, in a statement said there was no plot to remove Chief Anyim as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), stating that the South-east zone was now politically mature to warrant a repeat of succession crisis when the office of the Senate Presidency was allotted to the zone.

“The South-east as a geo-political zone wishes to categorically state that there was no such plot to remove Chief Anyim from office, as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.” He further submitted that the zone had come of age as to warrant a repeat of what happened when the office of the Senate President was zoned to it in the past.

“We are no longer divided by individual ambition. Chief Anyim was unanimously chosen as the SGF from the zone and he has so far continued to enjoy the support and confidence of the South-east geo-political zone and we are also proud of his leadership qualities as SGF,” Chief Metu stated.

Metu, who expressed the zone’s vote of confidence on Anyim, further said the SGF, though from the South-east, should be seen as a Nigerian offering qualitative leadership and support to President Goodluck Jonathan transformation agenda. Metu noted that the South-east had never been more than united as it is now, calling on those he described as ‘political jobbers’ to steer clear and not distract Senator Anyim as the SGF, explaining that the zone would stop at nothing in ensuring the unity and integrity of the South-ast.

Also, in a similar vein, a group, South- east Renewal Group, in a statement signed by its coordinator, Willy Ezeugwu said it was disappointing that people could engage in acts that amount to distracting Chief Anyim, whose choice for the position of SGF was unanimously reached by the entire people of the South-east, after they initially rejected the position as being inferior to other posts in the country. “Anyim’s appointment was hailed as capacity of SGF, just because the people of South-east nominated him and Mr. President accepted the nomination.

“When the people of the entire South-east nominated Chief Anyim, it was commendable that President Goodluck Jonathan accepted the nomination and the SGF has since then served with such humility that the office is now rated positively among Nigerians. This is why it is troubling to discover that there are people who are bent ondistracting this humble man in the performance of his duties.”http://odili.net/news/source/2011/sep/26/512.html
