ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — A 96-year-old northeast Florida woman has been charged with killing her nephew.

Jail records show that Amanda Rice Stevenson was booked on a homicide charge early Monday morning.
St. Augustine police say 53-year-old Johnny Westley Rice was found dead Sunday, shot in the chest with a .357-caliber handgun.

The St. Augustine Record reports that Stevenson had moved in with Rice and his wife earlier this year. A neighbor said the woman suffered from dementia, and Rice had been concerned about her outbursts.

Police records show the Rices called authorities Sept. 8 to report Stevenson. Responding officers reported that the woman was in good health and aware of her surroundings. They determined she was not a danger to herself or others.

Stevenson is being held without bond. Jail records didn’t say if she had an attorney.
