First Lady Patience Jonathan says she will assist the women of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) in realising their dream for peace and the liberation of their country.

Jonathan made the pledge in Abuja on Tuesday at a dinner she hosted for her counterpart from SADR, Hajiya Khadija Hamdi.

According to her, women need to rise up and fight for peace on the continent.

``Many countries in Africa, including Libya and Sudan, have been plagued by conflicts, so women need to rise and be united to fight for peace on the continent.

``When I heard about the Saharawi women, I was eager to meet them. I promise that we will work together to achieve peace and liberation for the Saharawi people.''

The SADR, regarded as Africa's last colony, is being claimed by Morocco.

Spain, which colonised the territory then known as Western Sahara, withdrew from it in 1976.

Earlier, Hamdi, who spoke through Mr Oubi Bachier, the country's ambassador, thanked Nigeria for its role in her people's struggle for liberation.

``We have held conferences in Europe and other countries, but tomorrow's conference is the first that will be held on the matter in Africa.''

An international conference on Western Sahara is scheduled to hold in Abuja on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the First Lady on Tuesday held a technical session with members of the steering committee of the African First Ladies Peace Mission.

Speaking at the occasion, she said that the issues raised by the sub-committees would be ``properly addressed''.

The First Lady used the occasion to sue for peace in Nigeria.

``Let us patronise Nigeria, embrace peace and project our country in good light, so as to make our people proud.

``Let us live up to the expectations of foreigners that respect us and value our opinions,'' she pleaded.

nigeria is the only country in the world that give/export what she(nigeria) does not have(peace and freedom).
many nigerians/ethnic groups in nigeria are calling for freedom from you and your husband yet they can get so how is this magic woman going to liberate others when nigerians are seriously in bondage.
shame to nigeria and nigerians for giving out what they don't have.

Still beats my imagination till date.In America for instance, personal body guards dont hold anything(keep their hands free) in case he needs to pull his gun out, but here in Nigeria, the security guys standing next to them carries everything from handbags to envelopes given to them in occassions.

@bobothem,
no be aba u dey? u are like someone that just survived war so all u need now is rehablitation. leaving u to be moving out freely is even a risk. you are writing because you learnt that osisikankwu is dead so u can now open those gutters of urs to vomit shiits. most of u there in aba are mentally deranged because of the blood shed that constantly over take the city. it was thieves in aba then the matchet men(bakkasi boys) and later the kidnappers/military civil wars. even when these ones are not there, dirty and bad roads torment the city. like i said, u need rehablitation now as you are like someone that is going mad. pls take some time off before coming to public forum otherwise we can arrange an amnesty site for u and ur likes to chat there.

@topic,
before this woman leaves nigeria to liberate those under morroco, we are expecting her to liberate us first here in nigeria especially in such areas as maidugiri, jos, bauchi, bayelsa, niger delta and the biafrans because we are tired. most importantly, we need liberation from darkness and pdp. if only she can do this for us, she can go ahead and liberate libyans and morrocans or even americans - madam liberator.
