Former Chairman, Board of Management, LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, Dr. Muyiwa Oladimeji has called on Oyo and Osun State Governments to speed up the process of resolving the crisis rocking the institution.

Oladimeji gave the charge in Osogbo, noting that the governors of the two states should act decisively and save the institution without further delay.
Commending the governors for steps taken,he lamented the monumental effects of the crisis on the students, the parents/guardians, the workers and the states.
Oladimeji suggested three options for lasting, mutually benefiting peace to reign on the institution which has its campuses at Ogbomso and Osogbo.

He said: “The first option is a continuation of joint ownership of both LAUTECH teaching hospitals in Osogbo and Ogbomosho under same board and management as Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals in Ile-Ife and Ilesa, Ahmadu University Teaching Hospitals in Zaria and Kaduna.

“The second option is a continuation of joint ownership of both LAUTECH and Lautech Teaching Hospital with their different boards constituted for policy directives. In line with this, the accreditation of the of the fledging teaching hospital in Ogbomosho and the reaccreditation of the existing one in Osogbo should be pursued vigorously.

“ As it is the usual practice in some countries, a university can have two or more teaching hospitals independent of each other. University of London for example has over Ten Teaching Hospitals with Kings, Guys, St Thomas, St Georges, U.C.H, Royal Free Hospital and Hammersmith campuses to name some of them. It is the same thing with the former Soviet Union Universities and now Russia, Ukraine, etc. If this option is acceptable, the Medical and Dental Council will be expected to play an effective moderating role.

“The third option is to put in place the process of separation with the two states regarded as equal partners. The process should be transparent devoid of sentiment and political bickering. For a successful separation a committee comprising technocrats and representatives of all stakeholders should be composed with a stated time frame for conclusion of the exercise.”

The former Chairman urged the governors to beware opportunists and position seeking academics, bureaucrats and power thirsty civil servants/pseudo politicians.
“Governors Rauf Aregbesola and Abiola Ajimobi should bring openness, frankness and large heart to bear in their discussions in order to resolve this matter in a civilized and matured manner. The oneness of Yoruba nation must not be sacrificed on the altar of ego and pettiness,” he advised .
