The Anambra State Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Patrick Agha Mba has visited training centers in Awka and Orumba to monitor the progress of the One Youth Two Skills scheme.

Mr Commissioner and his monitoring team which comprises of Desk Officers and Youth Volunteers visited the following centres: Unizik Business School Awka, Industrial Training Fund Training Development Centre Awka, Office of the Head of Service Staff Development Centre Awka, Integral Development Konsult Learning Centre Awka, Centre of Entrepreneurship Development – Federal Polytechnic Oko and Aguata Local Government Secretariat

During his visit, Mr. Agha Mba met with trainees and master trainers to assess the progress of the scheme which is an important aspect, to ensure quality assurance and program standards.

52 different skills will be available to learn free of charge when the One Youth Two Skills scheme is fully launched on September 1, 2023.

Mr. Agha Mba said that the pilot phase of the scheme has been a success.

After undergoing intensive six months training, beneficiaries of the pilot phase are now studying entrepreneurship.

They will then be clustered into cooperative societies based on their business skills.

This cooperative setting will help to sustain new businesses and allow them to interface with government regularly.

The Commissioner described Soludo as a youth-friendly Governor who wants to make Anambra State a skill hub in Africa and secure the space for quality jobs.

He reiterated that the Governor’s statement to give Anambra youths two skills is not political.

The goal of the One Youth Two Skills scheme is to change the usual narrative by taking the minds of youths out of consumerism and into a more productive, innovative, impactive, and exportive program. The destination is jobs, jobs, and quality jobs.

Mr. Agha Mba, said that the government will not do everything for the youths.

The responsibility of the government is to provide an enabling environment, but the solution is here and the government is ready for the youths today. The question is, are the youths ready?

“I have seen the Governor’s appointments in strategic positions, and I can confidently say that he believes strongly in the youths.

As the former ASATU Youth National President and a Local Government Chairman, I have led in youth capacity for years in the state.

“I can say that One Youth Two Skills is totally different from other empowerment schemes with its own methodology and full empowerment package.

“One Youth Two Skills has adopted a community-based approach, so trainees can acquire skills in their local government areas. You don’t need to come to Awka to receive your training,” he said.

The Commissioner urged youths to take advantage of the opportunity to acquire skills that will help them to become self-employed.

Onyeka from Umueze (Fashion Designer), Nweke from Aguleri (ICT), Uchenna (Caterer/Cook), and Okonkwo from Nteje (Solar Installation Engineer) all thanked Governor Soludo for picking them up from the streets.

They testified that they are fully equipped with the necessary skills they acquired from the scheme to run their own businesses and become employers of labor.
