Why Nigerians Care About Democracy In Niger Republic But Not Cameroon? by Blue3k(m): 5:13pm On Aug 08, 2023
Why do Nigerians suddenly care about spreading freedom and democracy? Is it because they're afraid of their military? Why is coup in Niger the inspiration for them overthrow the government when they ignored the dictorship all over west Africa the past 20 years.

Is it because France doesn't like these Coupist? It's also interesting the French don't care freedom in Cameroon. Should Niger Republic conduct fake elections so all the democracy livers can relax?

Is it because they're in ecowas? Niger could be suspended from the block. Is it because Nigeria is afraid they will cancel the Trans-Saharan gas pipeline? Did the new government make any such announcements? Is there an option of going around or negotiating with them.

Is Cameroun under ECOWAS?

I is a one-off, 2 is a coincidence, 3 is a pattern.

It is time to put an end to the pattern of military junta that want to begin creeping all over West Africa.

We will not go back to the '80s and '90s.

The resistance starts now so that others that might be thinking of it in Benin or Togo or Ghana or Nigeria, would be fully aware that they will not be allowed to rule.

The last time I check, Cameroon is not under a military rule.
So no point comparing Niger and Cameroun.

If they're suspended from ecowas you'll relax? You're OK with eastern neighbors being a dictorship but not your northern neighbor because they're in a trade block. I agree it's the current year.

Cameroon is not a member of ECOWAS. Cameroon is in Central Africa. So let the union in CA do that or let AU look into it. AU is not just Nigeria.

Cameroon has never been a member of ECOWAS, so why or how will they be suspended?
Every sovereign state joins a union with other sovereign states by signing some agreements.
A Nigerian can go to any West African country without a visa or work permit and do his/her thing, but not Cameroon. Because Nigeria has no pact with Cameroon.

Some of Nigeria's asset runs through Niger republic. The $25 billion Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline runs through that country.

The military could destroy the pipeline, or the islamist celebrating the exit of France after the coup could take over the pipeline and use it for blackmail purposes. The french military had been helping the Niger republic army to hold back the jihadist trying to dominate the country.

I am not one of those who gets riled up because someone gets called a "dictator".
Cameroonian leadership is civilian.

Military transitioning to democratically elected isn't new.
Yes, is okay if a coup plotter were to organize election and win.

There is a reason most military coupists don't run election to become democrats.
If it were that simple, 100% of them will do it.

NIGER Republic have freed themselves from Fulani ruling class. You should be happy for them, so that your useless ILORIN can be returned to you. That is, if you can challenge your master, as a super slave

The president isnt concerned about Democracy in Niger, he is only afraid of military rule in Niger as it is closer to home and may provide impetus for something similar on local grounds, thats what all the noise is about.

The Nigeria-Morocco pipeline has nothing to do with Niger, even the Trans-Sahara gas pipeline has been put on hold for a very long time, it was Buhari that tried reviving it but there is nothing concrete regarding it.

Stop with the lies please.

All this noise isn't because of democracy Nonsense..it's all about self preservation. The junkie knows he is unpopular and people will celebrate his ouster

Did the coupist take any aggressive stance towards Nigeria or her interest? I don't remember them placing any sanctions on Nigeria. I do remember Nigeria cutting electricity exports. You're talking about potential policies they never endorsed.

Boubacar Moussa, a former jihadi fighter who joined a program that encourages fighters to defect and reintegrate into society, said that jihadis in Niger have been celebrating the chaos and greater freedom of movement since countries like France suspended military operations.

A couple hundred French soldiers had been conducting joint operations with the Nigerien military in the tri-border area between Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso, and provided air support to Niger forces. But those operations are now on hold.

Military Coup is abhorrent and should be kicked out like leprosy especially when done against a duly democratically elected president.

People with force of arms should be subservient to civilian rule, be it monarchy, democracy, theocracy or otherwise.

The pipeline being currently built in Niger republic are backed by financiers. Financiers would pull out of the deal due to risk of sabotage or unstable economic policies brought about by the coup plotters. Nigeria would be on the hook for billions of dollars.
