Tinubu And Fashola Set For Clash As Fashola Drops Alphabeta by lwise(m): 12:31pm On Oct 14, 2011
The Lagos State government has announced plans to drop Alphabeta, the tax consultants to the state government linked to former governor, Bola Tinubu. Many watchers of Lagos saw this coming especially as the relationship between Tinubu and his ordained successor, Governor Raji Fashola became strained just before the election with Tinubu hesitating to endorse Fashola's second term. Political pundits who watched the body language of Governor Fashola knew that he was only biding time and tolerating Tinubu's overbearing influence until he got his second and final term.

Now that he has got that term, it is no surprise that he has begun to cut Tinubu to size.

It is a notorious secret that Tinubu calls the shots in the ACN because of his immense wealth which derives largely from his interest in Alphabete, the notorious tax consultants who collect revenue on behalf of the state government. The complaints of Lagosians is that while Alphabeta may have increased the State's internally generated revenue by over 100%,the remuneration the firm receives is out of all proportion to services it renders.

But those have now come to a head as godfather and godson must now come to terms with the balance of power which has shifted ever so slightly away from Tinubu in the direction of Governor Fashola.

According to a statement from Mr. Bola Shodipo who is Special Adviser to the Governor on Taxation and Revenue, AlphaBeta's services will no longer be needed as from next year.

This expected loss of revenue by Tinubu is expected to have a negative impact on his ability to continue to call the shots in the ACN and by extension in the Southwest.
