I hope this shuts down once and for all who Nigeria's illest lyricist is. Anybody who can standup regardless of affiliation to say Mode9 is not the illest don't know droppings and is better off moonwalking on landmines. Real recognise real.

This ain't manliness riding but saying it the way it is.

Real talk from a real dawg.

mykali:

not going to abuse you, but just gonna point out that 'rapping' originated from the USA, so even those rapping in pijin or vernacuar are still 'copying' the originators of the genre. although, i agree with you, especially about the types of Naeto and Sauce who try too much to sound American.

i don't have a problem with naija rappers in general, except the ones who try to copy the particular style of american rappers. the ones who rap in pidgin at least are using their mother tongue.

the naija rappers who try too hard to sound american are the functional equivalent of someone with a strong naija accent who is trying to speak with an american accent

Hmmm. . .what stood out for me in the video was the reverence & admiration the others displayed towards Modenine when he was about to spit (like sey hin be their King) and when he was spitting and trust Mode not to disappoint cos his whole demeanour/attitude was bossy and cocky through out. His lines & punches were v.good also

M.I did very well too and I was impressed by Ice-Prince's delivery despite his somewhat generic punchlines. Anyway, to cut a long story short, na like this I go rate them. . . .

1. MODENINE - 8.5/10
2. MI - 7/10
3. Ice Prince - 6/10
4. Sauce Kid - 5/10
5. Naeto C - 3/10
6. XO Senavoe - Ungraded cos to me the guy just dey throw tantrum and play tomfoolery grin

In summary, na only Modenine, MI, Sauce Kid and Ice Prince pass cool

If this was d rap olympics qualifiers na only Mode 9 make am. D others were just not good enough, but X.O was least impressive of d lot. Considering this was a big opportunity for him more so than others, he really should have done better.

The worst thing M.I did to himself in 2011 was to spit after Modenine.

Modenine should have been the last to spit.

@ princek12, go cryyy blood, (that is you own personal opinion), if you dont like or understand real rap methaphore, punchlines, wordplay, GO KISS HOT IRON.plus it is an international event you dont expect them to spit in naija locals cos the people out there wont understand what they are saying.and another point is that these guys are trying to sell them selves out to the world, you think say them wan remain for naija dey do akpako music dey chop small money?, boyz want to chop dollaz, they want to go world wide, they want major record labels to identify and sign them,, plus we want the world to know that nigerias got talent, i no go curse you, i bet your favorite rapper is terry G,the akpako master.
