OCCUPY ABUJA -SHOULD NIGERIANS JOIN THE WORLD ?

OCCUPY ABUJA - SHOULD NIGERIANS JOIN THE WORLD ?

Demonstrators in London and Rome turn out in large numbers to voice their displeasure over perceived corporate greed as "Occupy" protests spread across the globe. NBC's Keir Simmons reports.

Occupy Wall Street started in New York City, and have now spread to Washington DC.
"A website called 15october.net urged the people of the world to "rise up" and "claim their rights and demand a true democracy."
"Now it is time for all of us to join in a global non violent protest. The ruling powers work for the benefit of just a few, ignoring the will of the vast majority and the human and environmental price we all have to pay. This intolerable situation must end," the website says."
OCCUPY ABUJA - NIGERIANS SHOULD JOIN THE WORLD ,
Should Nigerians take advantage of the current Occupy Wall Street protests spreading around the world to start their much needed revolution that will change the course of history in our once promising nation?

@Poster, we ought to ensure we have a good understanding of what the Occupy protests are really for. Rather than jumping in the bandwagon as we are known to do, we should take time to ensure we have something workable in our situation, don't you think?  I don't believe Nigeria needs an "Occupy Protest" because at the height of the rececssion, Nigerian claimed to have experienced 7% growth, and we only recently had an election where Nigerians voted massively to maintain the same set of politicians back in for another term, so I am not certain what we will be occupying in this case.

If we must protest, we probably need more of an "arab-spring" type protest since that is for government to give the people their demands. Problem I see with doing that is  is we already have democracy(which seems the major issue the Arab countries are fighting for), so we may need to begin something different at this point -- maybe "Death to institutionalized Corruption" protest, or something along those lines.

The problem in the west is not the same as the problem in the developing world like nigeria. The west has reached her peak of her economic illusion and winners takes all card game, while a developing world like nigeria is being driven to extinction by endemic corruption, irresponsibilties and fundamental ignorance,a case of non starters.

The Nigerian Version, should occupy National Assembly instead. And it should be a demand for the things that are insufficiently implemented or available in the country.

Re: The Need For Occupy Protest In Nigeria by Nobody: 2:48pm On Oct 16, 2011
All you people know how to do is sit in front of your computers and argue and make a rubbish of peoples ideas without doing anything positive about it. You all want to claim you are the most enlightened and argue over nothing while the people we should be directing our protest at don't even know of our existence.

Information is the key, although it takes time to sink into thick skulls but it finally does and relieves.

Who else? Nigerians who live in Nigeria . . .  You didn't see Egyptians abroad packing their loads en masse to start the Egyptian riot of earlier this year, did you? It is the responsibility of Nigerians to bell the cat -- no messiah, alien, or outsider will do that job for you.
Re: The Need For Occupy Protest In Nigeria by nanidee(f): 3:17pm On Oct 16, 2011
Everyone keeps talking about taking a stand against certain things wε see in Nigeria, things thayt the masses are not comfortable with. Problem is that ut always ends where iτ̅ starts. No mouise to bell the cat.

I have always said that the first step in making our voices heard is to come together with one voice. People should know exactly what tĦey are fighting for, and should be ready to take a stand for it. There should be a common goal for which wε are fighting. Some cannot be fighting against bad government, while some on the other hand are into religious fights, and yet, another faction into tribal fights.

For any voice to be heard, Nigerian youths ought to come together and agree to what the problem really is and fight for iτ̅ .

Just as redsun pointed out, the arabs were/are fighting for democracy. What are wε Nigerians ready to stand up against?

Why would anybody want to ''occupy'' anything in Nigeria? We had our chance in april and we blew it. You guys voted for the man and not the party, so deal with it.

How much time will it take? Some governors are doing their job but the President can be doing a lot better.
