For the swamps of the Niger Delta, what you need are helicopters and not jet aircraft. helicopters can carry soldiers that you can easily hover over an illegal bunkering site and lower the troops down, while raining fire from above in case any illegal bunkerer tries to get trigger happy.

We are not really serious about stopping this thing. if I was in charge, I would set an SLA (service level agreement) that once a bunkering site is discovered, military must be on top of them in 2 days max!!

As for discovering them. it can be easily done with a combination of satellite technology and surveillance drones operating 24 hours over the Niger delta.

Shey we saw a video recently of the NNPC control room, where live satellite imaging was showing the guys at various sites at work? If after 6 months, these guys realize that every time they try and re-establish in a new location, military are on top of them in a matter of days, the business will be deemed too risky and many of them will go do something else. The incidence of this illegal crude bunkering will drop dramatically.

Why spend a lot of money instead of making use of spy drone technology

Hmmm......so the Oil Spill agency is calling the NAF to bomb the illegal sites .... which will oil spills and environmental pollution. This is the problem with these elderly leaders ... their mentality is that of the 20th century.... using aircraft for such surveillance instead of drones. They should say how much the aircraft would cost. Couldn't the helicopters recently purchased do same?
