At this stage, you can just pray. My Dad had his amputated last year and he didn't survive it. After spending over a million naira on surgery and drugs. I am sure he would still be here if we had continued managing it as before

At what stage did he get the amputation?
What was his condition before the surgery?

Someone who is fully conscious and physiologically stable will not have the same outcome with someone whose system has deteriorated before the surgery. At that point it is usually a 50:50 thing and your doctor will always tell you.

Best solution is early visit to hospital once u have any wound on your leg even if it is a needle or bottle scratch.

There’s a brother of mine who’s been admitted to the hospital for about a week now. Man is pain.

He’s always been diabetic but the foot got worse this past week and he’s been admitted. Unable to eat and sleep. I’m really scared for him.

Doctor gave advice that the foot is amputated to prevent the spread to the entire leg, but his families are objecting to this saying that they’d prefer to treat him.

My question is, is it best to treat him or get the leg amputated?

What are the chances of his survival doctors in the house?

Why did he let it get to that level?

Some people don't like themselves. I know people who have been diabetic for years and they have healthy legs.

You are right.
As we read, former president aremu has diabetes close to fifty years.

Bro don't amputate anything yet. Stop spending money in that hospital. Make your enquiries asap. I saw one young man like that in general hospital umuahia (2015). He was to be amputated and the guy refused. He said he will rather take poison than to be amputated. He was later discharged and the family took him to one hospital in ozuakoli. I think it's owned by Methodist Church. The indian doctor there treated him and the whole sore was healed. He is back to his foot.
. Thanks for this. I hope Op will give this a try. Its either homeopathy drugs or aryuvedic... Those indians are something else.

It can be treated locally with herbs
Re: Can A Diabetic Foot Be Treated Or Best Amputated? by stasius: 4:24pm On Sep 23, 2023
Meanwhile, if your doctor has examined him and told you the leg will be cut off, let them chop it off.

If you keep delaying, his system will keep getting weaker from the toxins in the rotting leg and he will eventually die.
If you chop it off early, you can still save his life. 💁.

Follow your doctor's advice.

Hmmm!
I believe before a Doctor would advised on amputation of any limb, it would av been evaluated by multi-specialists: ENDOCRINOLOGIST, PLASTIC SURGEON and/ Orthopaedic Surgeon.
Please note that, saving a life is more important than saving a limb.
Be it wet or dry gangrene once the blood supply to the affected area is gone.Amputation is the last hope.
The question is could a dead log/wood come back to life ? Medically it maybe No! Spiritually it maybe Yes/No.
Diabetic Foot is one of the complications of Diabetes mellitus.
Please note that, in a Diabetic patient doctors do encourage patient strict compliance to medications because once any complications set in , ONLY GOD could stop it..
I wish him a quick recovery!

LordErrk:

Try a teaching hospital. Diabetic foot shouldn't just be amputated like that.
The infection should resolve once the blood sugar is under control and he gets appropriate debridement and antibiotics
Where's your location?

Everyone I know who had this same wound eventually died, amputated or not. Diabetes is a terrible disease worse than HIV. I can imagine the pain he's going through. Euthanasia should be legalize in this country! sad

If you don't mind me asking; have you researched on intermittent fasting, autophagy, and regeneration of cells?
Do you think it can help in this case or it's already too late?

Re: Can A Diabetic Foot Be Treated Or Best Amputated? by dalongjnr: 4:29pm On Sep 23, 2023
Diabetic foot is a very dangerous complication of poorly managed diabetes T1 or T2.
From your submission above, based on recommendations of the medical officer, that amputation is the next best solution, well you can't get a better second opinion here since ,nobody here, has assessed the condition of the patient.
This is what to lookout for;
1.stability of the patient to withstand the procedure(amputation).
2.The consent of the patient.
3.provision for post surgical care and rehabilitation.
NB; prompt and adequate dressing of the wounds, proper management/regulations of the glucose, and proper infection and pain management will help in the immediate intervention, but then, the concern is gangrene spreading and sepsis(infection) that may be growing unaided on the longer run and turn of events associated with such condition.
God's speed for him.
I hope he gets better.

First, any particular reason why he wants to survive?

I would suggest mercy killing. No one deserves to watch themselves rotting alive and being dismembered small small.

not if i prescribe him burdock roots to cleanse the blood and milk thistle to cleanse the liver and anti-fungal garlic

all this while i fortify and stimulate the pancreas with herbs and electrolytes

It all depends on the damage so far. If it’s still at foot ulcer level, it could be reversed. My father inlaw just went through it and he’s okay now. If you get the specialist, the sore will get healed

Even pain has its good side, an alert that something is wrong.

Keeping the foot against the advice of the doctor in charge is not wise.

For what?

that would work with cancerous cells. with diabetes we need nourishment of the pancreas not fasting

we share same story, my dad also faced this same thing.

We were in UCH for 40 days. They did below knee amputation on him. After few days he was discharged but was going for checkup twice a week at a state hospital around our side.

He died one month after. This was in 2016. The experience is still fresh in my head.

Can't forget this antibiotics 'Rocephin' he was using it everyday then in Uch and it was expensive.

May his soul continue to R.I.P

I know a popular American radio talk show presenter that said on a life program that his son's foot had to be amputated due to him being diabetic. Remember. this radio present and his son have all the money but amputating his son saved his sons life

Tell your brother to properly start managing his diabetes! He is not properly controlling it, that is why his foot got gangrenous.

Please do not agree to the amputation!

The chances of survival after amputation is 50/50 and even if the person survives the amputation, the person might not live beyond 5yrs.

If the person has a care giver or if you can employ one, I will tell u what to do.

You can send me a mail via insurena@gmail.com

My mum was in this situation 5yrs ago but thanks to God she's DOing well today.

Please people don't get diabetes.
Yes, you can prevent it.
Be vigilant with what you eat and be active and be measuring your blood sugar regularly.

Whenever I saw bad sugar level reading, I do blood sugar testing four to five times daily to know what works for me.

That is not how diabetes works.
