Osun Speaker Warns FG Against Fuel Subsidy Removal

Hon Salami Speaker Osun House of AssemblySpeaker Osun State House of Assembly, Honourable Najeem Salam has added his voice to the condemnation trailing the Federal Government proposed fuel subsidy removal, describing the step as a move to bring hardship to the people of the country.

Salam implored the Federal Government to fix the dilapidated four refineries in the country in order to cater for local consumption, saying that the fuel subsidy removal is to the detriment of the common people.

The speaker in a press statement signed by his Press Secretary, Mr. Goke Butika, on Monday, tasked the government to explore other possible means of generating Internally Generated Revenue aside oil, maintaining that the country is blessed with numerous natural resources that could turn around the economy of the country.

He warned the Federal Government not to imitate the economic variables in Washington and Brussels, stressing that the system cannot work in the country because of her peculiarity.

Salam added that the fear of the people could not be allayed by the sweet statements of policy formulators, but by the actions that would certainly ameliorate the sufferings of the people of the country.

The House Speaker noted that the value of Nigerian currency is depreciating on daily basis as a result of government’s ineptitude to practically reverse the consumers’ status of the nation, lamenting that it is absurd and illogical for the country to be importing what it has.

Calling on President Goodluck Jonathan not to be swayed by ill-advise of his aides, Salam stated that some members of his cabinet are more disposed to International Monetary Funds’ variables, which has no direct bearing with the reality of the country.

Salam lamented that Nigerians are contending with hunger, malfunctioning infrastructure and epileptic power supply, half of which had already triggered crisis in the Arab world and some parts of North Africa.

He submitted that increment in fuel prices would aggravate the sufferings of the masses, warning that the people might be pushed to the wall.

What would defeat this whole brouhaha if not a genuine and urgent effort to ensure we can refine , in Nigeria,  the quantity of oil the population consumes? All we see is GEJ crazily putting the Cart before the Horse because he is totally afraid of challenging the interests of the numerous AGIPs he sold his soul to before the elections !!!

We now , without doubt, have in place a pathetic "business as usual" Government determined to do things as has always being done to the detriment of Nigeria. It is crystal clear that GEJ is totally avoiding doing anything that disturbs the deleterious status quo crippling Nigeria. A concerted effort of privatising our refineries, thus ensuring they work optimally as soon as possible, and cutting waste/profligacy drastically , plus reducing recurrent expenditure by at least 25 -30% in the first year, would achieve the desired effect that would make future subsidy removal fairly pain-free to the masses . When you then decide that it is the long-suffering masses who must, as usual, make sacrifices, rather than the overfed and hideously overpaid  ruling class, then it is easy to discern that we have another "more of the same" government in charge of Nigeria.

Sorry, what is an Osun Speaker? Is it some kind of rat catcher? I am sure that some minor official in a small broke azz state was not given advise to the FG. There are some states in Nigeria that people should not hear from, they are places you only discover by accident. There was this state in the north that I only got to hear about for the first time when GEJ went for a rally.

@johndoe100, read over your post again and see if you're really proud of it. So there are some states in Nigeria one shouldn't hear from? SMH, so much for democracy.

You left the issue at hand and attacked the character involved including his state of origin not even minding the millions of others whose sensibilities may be hurt in the process. Nigeria!
