The Federal Government, on Friday, announced that Nigeria’s oil production has increased to about 1.7 million barrels per day, up from the 1.1mbpd recorded in August 2023.

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri, disclosed this in a session with journalists at his office in Abuja on Friday.

He said, “We have a sole agenda and it is to increase crude oil production. Once you increase production there will be more revenue for Nigeria and that is the recipe to virtually all the problems we have in this country.

“You know that Nigeria is very dependent on oil, even our budget is always predicated on how many barrels of oil we produce. Although the non-oil sector is thriving, for us to solve our problems we need to earn enough forex.

“And substantial part of our forex comes from the oil sector. So my ambition is to see how I can lead the sector to increase production and how we can get more revenue to be able to fund strategic national projects.

“We are already increasing production steadily. As at August it was about 1.1mbpd, but as at today it has increased to between 1.3 and 1.4mbpd exclusive of condensates, if you include condensates it will be about 1.7mbpd.”

Politics

There are people like him on this site..some obsessed with tinubu, some with Obi some even with atiku. Some still mourning 2015, some thinking Buhari would bring back Sharia

Add the fact that people feel that victory for one party means their tribe loses out
.

They make the site entertaining and also at the same time wearisome

The money we earn from 1.7 m barrels of oil is about the same as Libya which produces the same amount

Yet because Libya has 8 million and we have 220 million, per capita revenue for Nigeria is less than that of Libya. Then corruption comes in and makes things worse

If we really want to earn big money we have to become an exporter of manufactured goods and services

This should please translate to the betterment of the common man on the street, people are suffering now.
The current price of crude oil is 96usd per barrel, multiplied by 1.7million is 163 million dollars daily and almost 5 billion dollars monthly and Nigeria is still borrowing millions of dollars from world bank?
Something must be wrong somewhere!
Not to talk of other exports and IGR.
We need accountability in this country!

Good morning guys. I pray today is better than yesterday. May we not wake up to sad news today, nor will evil approach our doorsteps in Jesus name.
Just try and take life easy and don’t let the negativity of Nigeria get to you.

Yet, we are a poor country, not because of corruption, but because of our population compared to how much we make as income

Lokpobiri should not mix things up. I know he provided the breakdown in the body of the report so not sure if it is the media house that coined the headline.

Condensates are not counted as part of opec quota so the real crude oil production is about 1.3-1.4 million barrels per day. This is still a far cry from the > 2 million barrels per day capacity that Nigeria has. Can we just focus on what needs to be done to produce close to capacity? Same with gas supply to NLNG. The Trains have been producing at about 50% capacity for more than 2 years now. This is a classical case of self inflicted injury.

If we want to earn big money we have to become an exporter of manufactured goods and services
Libya sells fuel at less than 25 naira per litre and produces 1.2 million barrels per day.
Even with their current state, they are far more accountable than Nigerian leaders.
Their citizens don't take rubbish unlike here where religious and political divisions, nepotism and bigotry have beclouded our sense of reasoning!
Exporting manufactured goods is not just the solution, the bigger problem we have here is "Who will account for the earnings from such exports?" With unstable and politically inclined economic policies here and there?
We will not be poor if we have successfully accounted for oil exports, other exports, IGR (custom, immigration, taxes, e.t.c)
An average custom guy on the street is a BIG GUY not from salary but from sources known and unknown, imagine how much the custom boss will be pocketing! An so on and so forth..
Corruption and accountability must be dealt with before we make any reasonable progress!
Try exporting any finished or raw material abroad, you bribe and pay through your nose for the exports the Govt claim they are promoting
