God1000:Buying such sophisticated attack jet and Apache isn't the issue but maintenance and parts will milk you dry. Naija is too small to own such in its arsenal |

God1000: Is not just by needing is the Americans who you are clamouring for willing to hand over those Toys to your country that they consider inferior, the last time I check we end up with Tucano from them with much hassle and back and forth. See the world have since move on from them trying to enslave one with his own money, whenever there is alternative should be considered no time to waste... May them keep their expensive, high maintainance cost machine, with possiblity of going through their senate wahala whenever one wan purchase their spare parts. As far as they will get the job done we are ok with it. |

You want to lay with the devil...the US will probably ask for a Military Base before giving you F16 like in Saudi Arabia...even the other ones we got them had lots of caviat as to when we could use them or not...buying something with hands tied behind your back...not ideal. God1000: |

nairalanda1:@bold It is expensive but that is not the unit cost. The Philippines ordered 6 Bell AH1z attack helicopters with associated equipment for $450 million including engines, hell fire II missiles, PPS, Precision guided kill systems etc Nigeria already has an agreement with the US for the supply of 12 units and associated equipment for $1 billion. Even the Unit cost of F-35A, F-35B, F-35C with ancillary like ground support and spare part doesn't cost up to $150 million per unit, na Bell AH1z nai won cost $450 million per unit. The amount you quoted for the Bell AH1z from whatever source you got it is the cost of the entire supply deal and not the per unit cost 1 Like 2 Shares |

Those equipment are not needed by the Nigerian armed forces. We are not fighting a conventional war with any major world powers and the cost to purchase, maintain and service those equipment are into billions of USD. So the helicopters from Turkey suits our specific security needs and budget. God1000: |

nairalanda1: Must we buy 10 in one year? The world is advancing and we are still purchasing WWII relics. Do you imagine our disadvantage if we (God forbid) find ourselves in a war with some advanced nation? We can start buying these advanced hardware one per year until we amass a substantial arsenal. Stop being so myopic and pessimistic. |
