Friday, 28 October 2011

Thank God, the “progressives” are now at the helm of affairs in Oyo State. However, it is disheartening that the catalogue of promises made by these progressives have remained a pipe dream, five months after their inauguration. Prior to the April elections, hope of the masses was high, given the goodies promised the people of the state during the period of electioneering.

The unemployed citizens were guaranteed good jobs within the first 100 days in office; teachers were assured that their lost glory would be restored; the governor even said that teachers were not slaves and that they deserved prompt payment as and when due; marketmen and women as well as artisans, who willingly voted for the “progressives” now appear to have become disillusioned with the negative signals emanating from the Agodi Government House

Today marks the fifth month of the inauguration of this present government, yet the socio-economic situation of the state remains quite appalling. It seems the government is on a sabbatical holiday. To be candid, the state government’s socio-economic policies are harsh, anti-people, and vindictive. Lamentation is all over the place, due to the government’s slow pace of handling crucial issues, particularly at a time much is expected from it.

The government is deliberately stepping on toes with its needless demolition of shops and kiosks across the state without an arrangement in place to relocate the affected shop owners. The earlier promise made by the government to create 20,000 jobs seems to have been abandoned, while people employed by the previous administration are being sacked in the name of restructuring. Teachers’ hopes have dimmed while the implementation of the earlier promised minimum wage has become a mirage.

This piece, therefore, is a clarion call to Oyo State citizens to take it upon themselves as an important duty to pray on a daily basis for our state, because from the way things are going, we really need divine intervention. May the Lord come to our rescue at this trying moment.

is this writer expecting magic from a governor that is barely 5 months old?

is oyo not one of the named states in dire straits financially?

the way we bandy the word progressive in nigeria is laughable

Where is Alao Alakala ?

What has Dr Akala gotta do with this?. Can't he be left alone to enjoy his wealth?.It's like Obama blaming Bush for the economy months after his election.

The six states that are in financial distress are: Kano, Sokoto, Niger, Zamfara, Katsina and Osun.
Those deemed critical are: Ekiti, Plateau, Benue, Edo, Borno, Adamawa, Cross River, Enugu, Taraba, Ogun, Kogi, Yobe, Ebonyi, Ondo and Kaduna.

In the unhealthy cadre are: Oyo, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Nasarawa, Gombe and Rivers

Who is asking for OBJ's head?. It is only in Nigeria that we use the past to make excuses for our failure. OBJ left the govt more than 5 yrs ago if I am correct, why is he still being remembered?. Unless you are talking about Odi massacre  because that was his only legacy.

Because Nigerian politicians are very corrupt than what is obtainable elsewhere. How can a state like ogun state conviniently move forward when Gbenga daniel left a debt of over 60 billion naira ?

Did you see the debt or is it what Amosun is telling you?. There are many conflicting reports on that debt and we don't know which is true. Ekiti and Imo govs made similar claims o.It is becoming a normal practice for govs to claim the state is impoverished so as to reduce their performance standard.

What metric does this study use? Like, what does "unhealthy" mean, in terms of #s?
