At the end of every year the Lagos State Government is always bombarded with complaints by people that are suffering because of Quilox Night Club's parties. The nightclub building is soundproof, but they always have a 24, 36 or 58 hour party that is held outside and the noise is a big problem to residents of the area.

Worse still, guests often park their cars right in the middle of Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, which is one of the major roads on Victoria Island. I experienced the traffic jam in 2017 or 2018. In fact, guests were walking nonchalantly on the road and I almost hit one of them.

Quilox has been shut many times since 2019 because of this and their guests' cars have been towed by LASTMA, but it seems another problem is brewing this year.

Lagos State Environmental Update @moe_lagos

This is Quilox Club as of today, the 24th of December, 2023. At 7.30 am.... When the government takes a FINAL decision on the traffic and environmental nuisances caused by this club, nobody should cry a witch-hunt.

Quilox Night Club Sealed Up Following Shina Pellers Arrest

bestofnollywood:
Following an earlier report by ngg.ng about the detention of House of Representatives member and CEO of Quilox night club, Honorable Shina Peller at the Maroko Police Station earlier today, new development reveals that the popular night club has now been sealed off.

Ngg.ng can confirm that the reason for detaining the erstwhile king of nightlife in Lagos is not unconnected from the ongoing Quilox non-stop 36hours party, which has been said to cause noise pollution within the vicinity.

Emerging photos now reveals that Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has cordoned the compound of the club over traffic congestion and noise pollution.

LASEPA Reopens Club Quilox

by lasep January 27, 2020

The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency has re-opened Club Quilox on Friday after securing the management’s commitment to comply with the State’s Environmental Laws, Regulations, Guidelines and Standards.

The Club was reopened after a meeting held at the Agency’s office in which its management committed to carrying out its activities without obstructing the flow of traffic on Ozumba Mbadiwe and other adjoining streets, by ensuring its clients are properly parked in designated areas. The Club has also demonstrated firm commitment to ensure that sound emanating from musical events hosted within its facility does not exceed the recommended limits set by the State.

The popular club owned by a member of the Federal House of Representative, Mr Shina Abiola Peller had organised a 36-hour non-stop event that led to traffic gridlock and noise pollution with its attendant effect on Victoria Island and its environs.

The General Manager, Dr Dolapo Fasawe who led the operation disclosed that “We are reopening the club for operation as it has fulfilled our conditions and complied with the extant law guiding its operations. The club was sanctioned and fined for environmental nuisances and we ensure total compliance before reopening.”

Speaking further, the General Manager noted that this should serve as a warning to other entertainment and event centres, to ensure that they operate within the ambit of the law, whilst carrying out their activities. She advised that entertainment and event centres should work with relevant agencies to put effective traffic management systems in place when hosting events and desist from generating noise.

The General Manager of LASEPA emphasised that the state government would not allow any business concern to constitute a nuisance to other users of the environment and would ensure strict compliance with the State’s environmental laws and regulations.

It trended all night in 2019 before LASTMA and Ministry of Environment went to shut down the place and arrest people that were parking on the road.

It trends virtually every year as people go through hell on Ozumba Mbadiwe Road.

NOISE POLLUTION: LAGOS SHUTS QUILOX CLUB

The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) on Saturday shut the popular Quilox Club on Ozumba Mbadwe Street, Victoria Island for its failure to comply with directives on organising events and not obtaining a sound control permit from the Agency. The enforcement exercise, which was jointly carried out by the officials of the agency and the Lagos State Task Force, was also a result of several complaints made by residents in the area.

Reacting to the exercise, General Manager, LASEPA, Dr. Dolapo Fasawe disclosed that the agency received several distress calls with video evidence from concerned neighbours to support their claims on alleged environmental nuisances being perpetrated by the club without consideration to the rights of other residents to a peaceful environment.

“To avert a situation like this, we recently held a stakeholders’ parley with the Owners/Chief Executive Officers of night clubs in the State to address the issue of noise pollution, particularly during the festive period. Lagos had earlier increased the decibels to accommodate leisure/hospitality business interests. We, however, urged them to apply for sound control permits before hosting events to enable us to reach out to the host community of the intended programme and further deploy our officials to the venue for proper monitoring and prevention of excessive noise pollution”, she explained.

According to her, an invitation was extended to Quilox Club, like every other stakeholder, but it was ignored by the management for reasons best known to them. She noted that no individual or group is bigger than society, adding that the Agency is still making efforts to ensure that all interests are protected under the law.

“Entertainment and Lagos are like a conjoined twin, thus our prolific intervention to preserve the sanctity of the State and at the same time sustained its economic relevance through aggressive environmental sustainability drive. To support the entrepreneurship interest of the operators. We came up with a communique which serves as a bond guiding all parties on the mode of operations during the yuletide period and the attendant consequences for non-compliance to the agreement”, Fasawe added.

Unless you haven't experienced that Quilox traffic, you won't know how big the problem is.
Last week Monday was a nightmare on the road.
I know Nigerians can party, but Monday morning when people are on their way to work,haba,kilode....
I think it's time Quilox moves permanently away from Ozumba Mbadiwe to a bigger space or he should look for an alternative space for the Club.
Lagosians are party animals,I'm sure wherever Shina peller decides to move to, Lagosians will follow him,but he must face the truth,he has outgrown that space on Ozumba Mbadiwe.
Someone like Shina Peller should be talking of having his club on the sea side, there are place he can still buy around the beach at Marwa and build something Gigantic, Lagosians will follow him there.
His Club although very very enjoyable,is causing pain for a lot of innocent people.
God bless Nigeria...

Nigeria is a place where misfits in government expect people on the streets to know the right thing to do and when to do so without the government putting up requisite measures to help both people and businesses to know their limits even before starting off any venture.

Night clubs are generally situated at places where noise won't be an issue. The place to situate such ventures in Lagos should be designated ab initio by the state government. Appropriate structures and monitoring systems should also be in place to help the businesses conduct themselves appropriately.

But here, you get up one day only to see governments bulldozers demolishing houses and offices that were built with permissions from the same Government. You see establishments being torn down for being at the wrong location and you wonder why the agencies in charge allowed the structure to be erected at the "wrong place" in the first place..

The solution is simple. Tow any car obstructing the free flow of traffic. By the time they bail their cars with 300k to 500k they'll ask themselves if it's worth it.
