Following applicable tax legislation, the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has communicated a reminder to all Employers of Labour to submit their annual tax returns on or before the stipulated deadline of January 31, 2024.

Mr. Ayodele Subair, the Executive Chairman of LIRS, conveyed this in an official statement released by the agency. Subair emphasized that employers of labour with businesses located within Lagos State must adhere to the deadline, as failure to comply will result in penalties and other statutory sanctions outlined in section 81(3) of the Personal Income Tax (Amendment) Act 2011.

Mr. Subair reiterated that the exclusive platform for filing annual income tax returns in Lagos State is the LIRS e-Tax portal: https://etax.lirs.net, as manual filing is no longer permissible. He urged businesses and employers to leverage the e-Tax portal for filing, citing its user-friendly, convenient, and secure nature.

“The e-Tax portal is designed for the convenience of taxpayers, making tax transactions easily accessible from the comfort of homes and offices,” noted Subair.

To facilitate compliance and address any filing-related concerns, LIRS has designated staff at its various offices to assist taxpayers in utilizing the e-Tax portal.

Many companies will be shaking right now. Is only multinational that truly pay tax to the government. You see all this out indigenous companies they only know how to deduct employees tax and will never remit it.

It's not all about taxation. We should also be getting tax rebates too from some income. The taxes on portions of my income used for my kids education and our general healthcare ought to be reimbursed to me. Even performance related bonuses, which qualify as gifts! Once I can provide proof of those expenditure, that should be easy.

But LIRS is a one-way traffic. Once it goes in, it's gone.

I just hope that the online portal is up and running without any issues so that companies could file without glitches.

Tax is a necessity to create revenue so I think It is a good development but only if it applies to all but am sure this is only to hound the average hardworking low to middle tier company while the likes of Alpha Beta will be conveniently sidestepping or exempted from this requirement so we don't see what the Landlord is making. The State has truly gone to the dogs. Am surprised Nigeria as a whole is still standing with the amount of monies been siphoned from it front left center on the daily.

This is probably the worst period for medium to small business owners in Nigeria.
It's literarily hell doing business now.
How some businesses are surviving beats the imagination
