The problem is not releasing the food but those that will release it... They will assign their relatives and at the end of the day they will sell it same price as the market... You will not see anybody arrested and prosecuted for selling it illegally
that’s if they ain’t releasing expired food

419 yahoo yahoo government. Which food reserve?

Instead of opening the border so that rice and other food items will be readily available for Nigerians, Tinubu's govt has chosen to deceive Nigerians with a mythical food reserve. So that his brothers in customs will be feeding fat from the suffering of Nigerians. Wickedness at it's highest level.

So crashing prices will plunge the economy into further depression. Interesting. SMH.
So you don't think there will be 'bubbles' somewhere if food marketers have to buy at high price and sell at lowered price? Let the government finish with their reserve and watch what the marketers wil do.

Were they waiting for the people to die first?

Government job is to use national revenue and resources to take care of the people, political office holders and their cronies are not the only one that is supposed to enjoy the nation's wealth.

Who told you that they buy at high prices? If you know how wicked our middlemen are and Fulani politicians opposing this government, you would know that they deserve whatever comes. The government knows that there is food in the country but they are being mopped up by powerful individuals who have trillions of stolen naira and dollars to throw around so they can create artificial scarcity. It's scary. The government need to locate those warehouses that they're using and release all the food there to the public. The government should introduce policies that will prevent extremely powerful people who used the country's resources to establish gigantic farms but who are fond of selling to foreign buyers to stop, unless there is surplus in the country. Dangote sells cement produced in Nigeria, with Nigeria's resources way cheaper outside than he sells to Nigerians. Same cost of production o. Join transportation to it and it is cheaper. No be juju be that?

Oga, the border has been opened, at least in the South but some people are mopping up whatever comes in. The famine we are experiencing is man made.

What we have is monetary problem. Availability is relatively okay despite the menace of insecurity and dangers to poor farmers and marketers occasioned by hoodlums and governmental deficiencies. The naira keeps tumbling down, is that the fault of marketers? If they sell a product at N50 today would they still sell at that price even if they now have to buy at the same price also.
You are only supporting the government without recognizing it's their responsibility to find LASTING solutions to problems that affect the citizens.

Who is the food being released to

Which border is opened?

I'm talking about the Northern border here so that Rice, Beans, cement etc will be imported from our food producing neighboring African countries like Niger, Chad, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Gambia, Cameroun etc.

I'm not talking about importing expensive rice from Thailand and other European/asian countries through the Lagos ports that poor Nigerians can't afford.

Unless you were not an adult during the Jonathan presidency when the border was open and food was cheap, you should have known all these things
Re: Government To Release Food Items From Reserves To Crash Prices by gideonvalor98(m): 9:23am On Feb 08
Let the governors swing into action, anybody HOARDING OT STOCKPILING FOOD PRODUCTS in MASSIVE QUANTITY should be break into and released into markets for sale. I think it's right time we put a law/policy to bind this - PRICE RANGE OF FOOD PRODUCTS MOST ESP. AND OTHERS TO FOLLOW SUIT...THEN, THE HIGHEST QUANTITY OF IT YOU CAN STOCK UP. People are just to extremely greedy that they only rely on SPECULATIONS OR LOOK FOR SITUATION TO EXPLOIT IN ORDER TO CARRY OUT THEIR NEFARIOUS ACTIVITIES.

Open up the borders, reduce custom fees to like 50% of what it is now, what's the essence of Customs generating trillions and it ain't having any positive impact on Nigeirans in terms of development or affordable food and services.

Subsidise petrol cos we ain't even seeing what the money that's being used to subsidise before is being used for now.

Whatever you're releasing will never be enough we all know that, that's even if our governors do not 'corner' it and keep it till forever.

The borders have been opened sinceeee.

Not at all in respect of rice importation and other food items.

1. Subsidy will be removed and there wouldn't be any going back ✅

2. That we are going to have an independent economy, remember banks are no longer hoarding dollars, any bank that does will stop banking.

3. He said during his campaign that things are going to be hard but with necessary sacrifice to where we should be, and he's the only one who talked about potential hardship because of total removal of fuel subsidy.

4. Patronage of things that can be produced locally will be encouraged while their importation will be discouraged, import duties of these products have been increased, great advantage to local producers

The good thing I love about Tinubu is that he didn't lie to anyone that things will be rousy immediately he took charge like the rest, in fact if you put emotions aside and follow him, the guy really has a blueprint of what he wants to do, he understands the forces behind our declining economy

1. with the removal of subsidy, what is the result?

2. how has Nigeria's economy become independent based on Tinubus promise?

3. I dont remember banks hoarding or not hoarding dollars. when did we have that discussion that you say "remember banks are no longer hoarding dollars, any bank that does will stop banking".

4. what has banks hoarding dollars got to do with the Nigerian economy being independent or not being independent?

5. how did you come to the conclusion that any bank that hoards dollars will stop banking?

6. when did Tinubu in his campaign say that things are going to be hard?

7. which "necessary sacrifices" are you referring to?

8. which things being produced locally are Nigerian being encouraged to patronise?

9. which products are their importation being discouraged?

10. which products have their import duties been increased?

If you know what governance is, reform is not something whose fruits you would be reaping immediately a governor or a president takes charge, and if you are one of those who think a good president is someone who will give you honey immediately he takes over, then this argument is not worth it. Forget about your emotions and loyalty to Peter Obi, and look at the potentials of the decision Tinubu is making.
Pay more attention to what Tinubu government is doing towards these things I mentioned instead of following the deluded crowd who don't have a clue how things work, with that you will be informed, in fact I wasn't expecting myself to be a Tinubu supporter after voting for Peter Obi but I've agreed to his measures since he took charge, even though these measures are creating difficult living but these are the things that will give us the country of our own. It will create opportunities for those who are not lazy because no matter how good a country is, if you are lazy you will still suffer, it is very basic. God bless Africa, God bless Nigeria

Most Nigerians don't read!

Rice don't have special borders for importation.
The importation of rice and many goods via Land borders was restricted and directed to use the Seaports for proper scrutiny on economic and security grounds.

The problem with importation via land borders: most of the rice were smuggled, thus weren't subjected to security clearance and payment of import duties.
