What Is The Essence Of Having State Governors In Nigeria?? by Jeans601: 11:14am On Feb 07 |
Going through the threads on FP regarding governor getting increased allocation.I see alot of people saying the Governors have no blame cos they aren't the one in charge of making policy? My question now is what the essence of having state governors since we can't blame them for anything and shouldn't hold them to account for the allocation money and security vote they collect. We practice the same democratic system as USA and governors over there make lot of contributions and input in there state. Infact some state governors over there don't even need the federal allocation to run the states but ours just sit and wait till end of every month to collect money and steal yet people seeing Nothing wrong with that. Can we all agree since the president should be hold accountable for everything that goes in the country maybe we should scrap having state Governors. What is the essence of having state Governors in Nigeria Since the president get blamed for everything and is supposed to do everything. Mydn44 seun dominique pls push to FP. 3 Likes |

State policies cannot override federal ones. The positive changes governors can effect within their states cannot be significant when not inline with federal decisions. Governors cannot have their bad ways if not overlooked or supported by the federal. Similarly, governors cannot do good things that go against the selfish interest of the federal powers and go free. This is conditioned by corruption. That's why governors are unduly removed by the federal powers. That's why unelected governors are imposed on states by the federal powers. Lagos State account was freezed some time ago. Ambode had only one tenure. Uzodima was given to Imo State. Supreme court has been used to decide governors in many States in Nigeria. Those who think governors can successfully go against the federal powers in Nigeria are yet to understand the depth of corruption and tyranny in Nigeria. There is a reason every presidential regime changes the CBN leadership, the senate president, the aviation minister, the IG of police, the chief judge of the federation and tamper with the positions of high-ranked military officers. Those who don't understand the corruption level think the changes are primarily to use political appointments to reward friends and relatives. 1 Like |

immortalcrown: The question is, what are many of them doing with the money they receive. In some States, there is absolutely nothing going on. |

immortalcrown: So federal policies stop them from developing there state and making there citizens enjoy?? When Is time for election this same useless governors will spend Billions of naira to install there stooge as new governors. Most Nigerians are just gullible honestly, Ogun state governor is one of the most useless governor in Nigeria base off the money they received from fg and internal igr every month. But he knows is people will rather blame the president for whatever goes wrong in that state while he keeps looting. 3 Likes 1 Share |

They are gang leaders who supervise resource grabbing operations and so steal their own share generously. |

immortalcrown:We have seen cases where state went into heavy agriculture and made good gains. Lagos and Kebbi did rice some years ago. Gombe and Kebbi do give farmers fertilizers to encourage them and food is dirt cheap there as evidence. FG's mismanagement of refineries did not stop Lagos from hosting Dangote refinery. Stop trying to be mentally stiff just to pass the buck to President and FG. State should be business units that can create business before spending and should be restricted from spending allocation directly. 1 Like |
