12 policemen held over alleged robbery in Adamawa state BY UMAR YUSUF Yola-No fewer than 12 policemen including a retired Deputy Superintendent, DSP, are now being interrogated at the Adamawa State Police Command, Yola, over their alleged involvement in criminal activities, including robbery and theft of firearms. The former DSP, who was said to have been the armourer while in service, was alleged to be in the habit of renting out sophisticated guns including AK47 rifles to robbers for N200,000 per operation. One of the constables being interrogated was alleged to have a fleet of cars, including a 2010 model of Toyota Corolla. Six of the suspects were allegedly manipulated by some robbery suspects who were arrested in parts of the state by members of the Special Anti- Robbery Squad in the state. Police sources told Vanguard that some of the arrested policemen were the main sources of arms with which the robbers carried out thier operations in Gombe, Taraba and Adamawa state. The suspects, who implicated thier police accoplices, were alleged to have opened up following "intensive police interrogation" adding that "they usually collected assorted weapons from police armourers which they returned after each successful operations with the fees." Trouble reportedly started for the following suspects who allegedly raided the Jimeta shopping Complex of N2 million worth of GSM recharge cards, after killing two persons, including a pregnant woman. The source disclosed that based on the information by the arrested robbers, the state Police Commissioner, Mr Adenrele Shinaba, directed an inventory of the armoury at the command, which revealed that no fewer than 120 guns, mostly AK47 rifles, other shot-guns and some ammunition were missing.
