President Bola Tinubu recently approved the appointment of Dr. Dayo Mobereola as the Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) for a renewable term of four years.

The appointment comes in the wake of the departure of Mr. Bashir Jamoh, whose tenure recently concluded.

The new Director-General has been tasked with the mandate to utilise his extensive expertise to enable NIMASA to uphold world-leading standards in maritime safety administration, maritime labour regulation, marine pollution prevention and control, search and rescue, cabotage enforcement, shipping development, and ship registration.

Brief profile
Dr. Mobereola attended St. Patrickโ€™s Grammar School in Ibadan.

He later obtained an MSc and a Ph.D in Transport Economics from the University of Wales, United Kingdom, and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Transport, both in England and Nigeria.

His studies exposed him to Social Development and Welfare, Maritime Safety and Security Management, and Maritime Piracy and Transnational Criminal Activities.

He started work at WS Atkins Watkins in the United Kingdom as a Consultant for four years. Whilst he returned to Nigeria, he occupied various leadership roles such as Managing Director of Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) from 2003 to 2015 and Commissioner for Transportation in Lagos State from 2015 to 2016.

Additionally, he has held positions as Deputy Managing Director and Project Development Director at AFM Consulting Plc, London, and as a Senior Economist at British Petroleum Shipping Limited, London.

His extensive work experience has equipped him with skills in Transportation, Business strategy, Strategic Planning, Management, Operations Management, Consulting, Negotiation, Project Planning and others.

His assignment aligns with the policies and programs outlined for the sector, guided by the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, H.E. Adegboyega Oyetola.

NIMASA was formed on August 1, 2006, following the merger of the National Maritime Authority and the Joint Maritime Labour Industrial Council, as both were previously parastatals under the Federal Ministry of Transport.

This is one of the most brilliant, hardworking and patriotic public servants in the Nigerian public transport sector.

He will do an excellent job at NIMASA! His legacies in LAMATA and the Lagos inter-modal transport system is visible to all.

I never knew he is a SPACO boy till today, shout out to my SPACO friends. You're doing well cheesy

Nigeria is in the hands of the best among the best among us and I am so happy.

Thank you Minister of Marine and Blue Economy for this meritorious appointment.

This is meritocracy. We don't want to lament after 8 years in govt.

You all wish the great strides in Lagos and Yorubaland will extend to other parts of Nigeria, now we are 'loaning' our best hands behind our phenomenal achievements in Yorubaland that you envy to the Federal Government at the centre, you are still complaining.

If FG had stuck to having these best kinds of hands in our strategic sectors since 1960 and not give in to blackmail of relegating meritocracy, we will not be in this place that we found ourselves during the Ex President GEJ era of locust years.

Nigeria deserves the best hands we can get now. Only the best hands are good enough for us. It doesn't matter where they come from. Dr Mobereola did not get this job because he is Yoruba, he got the job on merit and I can argue that based on his records in that sector, he is the best hand!

When you want service for yourself, even to barb your hair o, ordinary barbing of your hair, you want to use the best barber, the best hands regardless of where they come from, so does the Federal Government of Nigeria!

All the enemies of Nigeria will lose las las. They always lose. God bless Nigeria for ever! Check my signature for free stuffs!

If you know the BRT in Lagos, that's one of his creations at MD of LAMATA.
LAMATA is also behind the rail network of Lagos State.

He served LAMATA for 12 solid years 2003 to 2015.

Well deserved

Cardoso was "best hands" and our currency have lost its highest value more than any government in the past (and we've not completed a year yet). Wale Edun, same.... always blaming the previous government. The same government they praised in less than a year ago.

We can go on and on. I just hope he'll deliver as some of us here (his fans and APC Nairaland thugs) expects.

Only time will tell.
