Strike: Tanker Drivers Vow Not To Lift Fuel Until Govt Repairs Road by baslone: 1:29pm On Nov 15, 2011 |
As social and economic activites run aground in Cross River State and particularly in the state capital following the strike embarked upon by the Petroleum Tankers Drivers branch of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers Union (NUPENG), tanker drivers in the state have vowed not to supply fuel to filling stations until the federal government urgently rehabilitates the Calabar/Itu Federal Road. An official of NUPENG in the Calabar made this known to reporters today when they called at the petrol depot. He said that the drivers are protesting the deplorable of roads which have adversely hampered the vehicular movement within the state. Although the state chairman of the Petroleum Tanker Branch of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers Union (NUPENG), Alhaji Abdulahi Akomaye could not be reached for comments, an official of the union said the tanker drivers have resolved not to lift petroleum products until the road was rehabilitated. The official who did not want his name in print said that roads within the state were no longer motorable and therefore tanker drivers in the state had to take the action to compel the state and federal governments to repair the road. http://dailytrust.com.ng/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=147811%3Anovember-16-2011-strike-tanker-drivers-vow-not-to-lift-fuel-until-govt-repairs-road&catid=33%3Abriefly&Itemid=190 |
