Nursing Mother Jailed 7 Days For Stealing Indomie- What A Country! by gulfer: 6:31am On Nov 18, 2011
An Osogbo Senior Magistrates’ Court on Thursday sentenced a 28-year old nursing mother, Taye Joseph, to seven days of community service for stealing a carton of indomie.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the convict was to be kept in the custody of Ataoja Police Station in Osogbo from where she was expected to be coming to clean the court’s premises for seven days.
Senior Magistrate Olusola Aluko, however, gave an option of N300 fine for each of the seven-count charges brought against the convict.
Joseph had pleaded guilty to the seven-count charges of conspiracy, house-breaking as well as stealing and asked for leniency.
The police prosecutor, Solomon Oladele, told the court that the woman committed the offences, which contravened sections 516, 383, 413 and 390, of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, on November 16, at Olugun area in Osogbo.
Oladele, while presenting the facts of the case during a summary trial, told the court that Joseph forcefully entered the shop of one Fasilat Yinusa and stole a carton of indomie noodles valued at N1, 200.

He added that the woman stole some biscuits, Viju milk, eggs, packets of cigarettes and Bournvita among other items from the shops of Mulikat Agbeja and Folasade Suleieman.
According to Oladele, one Falola Saidi sighted the convict while trying to escape with the stolen items and raised an alarm which enabled passersby to apprehend her.
Aluko, in his jugdment, said : “Throughout the trial period, I watched the convict keenly as she wept which indicated that she is regretting her action and I noticed that she is very sober.
“She is to be kept in the custody of the Ataoja Police Station from where she should be coming to clean the premises of this court for seven days.
“The convict should report at 8 a.m. and close at 4 p.m for the seven days and in the alternative, she should pay a fine of N300 for each of the seven count-charge brought against her.”

And yet we have corrupt politicians walking on the street. #Whatashame!

If the shop owners are not just too wicked, they should have taken her condition as a nursing mother into consideration and should have infact given her twice as much as she stole. If next time she's caught after that, then she deserves to be fined.

Wicked ppl for this world. Nobody is their brother's keeper anymore. Disgusting!

Anyways;

1. How is she supposed to pay for the fines while in detention?
2. What happens to her baby?

The punishment is very okay. It's not severe. She has been asked to sweep for 7 days.

Do you want stealing to be encouraged?

Ileke-IdI:

. . .they should have taken her condition as a nursing mother into consideration and should have infact given her twice as much as she stole.
^So being a nursing mother has become a justifiable excuse for stealing?
Ileke-IdI:

And yet we have corrupt politicians walking on the street.
You are as corrupt as the corrupt politicians since in your book, there are justifiable reasons for stealing. No doubt the politicians do justify their stealing as well.

7days jail for a carton of indomie (N1200). Lets do the maths:- how many months did cecilia ibru served for over 100b fraud? How many should we expect gbenga daniel, tinubu, odili, ibori, bankole, ikuforiji e.t.c to serve if found guilty if we had to judge a hungry nursing mother that probably wanted to feed her baby considering what she stole? Life imprisonment or death sentence will be ideal for corrupt politicians cos they are not hungry but greedy to the detriment of other nigerians. Our justice system is fraudulent cos what the government is telling nigerians is that if we need to steal we should do so in BILLIONS so that if we are caught there will be enough to plea bargain, get a retinue of Lawyers(SAN), settle security agencies and godfathers and be free in a matter of months and with vip treatment too. WHAT JUDGEMENT SHOULD OUR CORRUPT POLITICIANS RECEIVE FOR STEALING BILLIONS OF NAIRA IF A HUNGRY NURSING MOTHER GOT 7DAYS JAIL SENTENCE FOR STEALING FOOD?

Even manslaugther gets community service sometimes in england depending on the circumstances of the case and the animal that calls himself a learned man is jailing a poor nursing mother for stealing mere food, food that she probably need to feed her unfortunate child.
