Former Minister, Isa Pantami slams Bosun Tijani for relaunching NCAIR by naptu2: 3:50am On Apr 22
Background

Dr Bosun Tijani was a major critic of Muhammadu Buhari and Bola Tinubu before he became a minister. His tweets in which he insulted both men, senators and other government officials were resurrected during his Senate confirmation hearings. Some APC supporters have not forgiven him for his past comments.

Dr Tijani was also a major critic of his predecessor, Professor Ali Isa Pantami and he has had a running battle with Professor Pantami's supporters since he was appointed.

In particular, Dr Tijani criticised Professor Pantami when Pantami launched the National Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (NCAIR), but Dr Tijani has recently announced the launch of the same centre. Some of Professor Pantami's supporters believe that Dr Tijani is trying to steal Professor Pantami's legacy, while Dr Tijani says that he is relaunching a better NCAIR than the one he met.

Former Minister, Isa Pantami, slams Bosun Tijani for relaunching NCAIR

The Immediate past Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, has berated his successor, Bosun Tijani, for relaunching the National Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (NCAIR).

The NCAIR is a special-purpose vehicle created to promote research and development on emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Robotics and UAV, Internet of Things (IoT) and their practical application in areas of Nigerian national interest.

Tijani on Friday announced the relaunch of the NCAIR with the support of global tech company, Cisco, adding the capacity of the Centre has been improved. This, however, did not go down well with the former Minister, who felt his “legacy” was being claimed.

Reacting to the announcement of the relaunch via a post on his X handle, Pantami said:

●“The National Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics has been built and commissioned in November 2020, almost 4 years ago.

●“The first of its kind in Africa. It has been very effective, and thousands of Nigerians have been trained and trained. Legacy is achieved, not claimed.”

The relaunched NCAIR

Meanwhile, Minister Tijani on Saturday provided more details on what the “new and improved” NCAIR would deliver for Nigerians and the new capacities added to the Centre. According to the Minister, the goal of the Tinubu administration is to strengthen the capacity of NCAIR to conduct Artificial Intelligence research, empower local researchers and startups, and strengthen the application of AI in government.

●“To achieve these, here are some new initiatives we’ve introduced to support this relaunch:
“NCAIR now has access to over 2500 virtual CPUs for use by the Nigeria AI Collective. NCAIR is now connected to 1 petabyte of storage at GBB.

●“NCAIR will manage the new computing infrastructure for projects of national interest and academic research. There is now adedicated lab at NCAIR for State and enterprise AI research projects.

●“NCAIR will allow AI hubs and pods across the country connect remotely to the new computing infrastructure.

●“In addition, NCAIR will now report and academically publish on all projects carried out at the institution,” Tijani said.

Aside from the NCAIR relaunch, Tijani announced other policy initiatives that formed outcomes of the Ministry’s National AI Workshop, including the launch of the country’s first Multilingual Large Language Model.

Tijani further disclosed that after the 4-day of co-creation with over 120 ArtificiaI Intelligence experts, the country not only had an initial draft of its National AI Strategy but also announced some significant developments and partnerships that would lead Nigeria towards accelerating the development of AI.

He said part of the announcements was the partnership between 21st Century Technologies, Galaxy Backbone and NCAIR Nigeria to accelerate the development of Artificial Intelligence projects of national interest.

Dr Bosun Tijani announced the relaunch of NCAIR (screenshots 1 and 2).

He then announced what's different about the new NCAIR after people mentioned that Professor Pantami had previously launched NCAIR (screenshots 3 and 4).

Some people have been digging up old posts by Dr Tijani in which he criticised the initiatives of Professor Pantami, initiatives which they claim that he is now copying. Dr Tijani has responded to and disclaimed those claims.

The battle between Dr Tijani and Professor Pantami's supporters has been raging for a long time. This particular post led to a storm because many people believe that Dr Tijani was referring to Professor Pantami when he wrote "Sheikh".

Dr Tijani has started blocking supporters of Professor Pantami, but some people say that he criticised and insulted Muhammadu Buhari, Bola Tinubu and other government officials before he got into government, but he cannot take half of such criticism now that he is in government.

How can you compare a now thoroughbred scientist in the ministry and a religious bigot that has continued to oil his intellectual mediocrity even after leaving office by paying ransome to bandits?
Just compare Dr. Tijani's appointments into his ministry with those of Pantami. Am also sure Dr. Tijani will never be associated with alleged sympathy for terrorists or get involved with controversial award of professorship like his predecessor.

This issue has also become part of a civil war between groups of APC supporters. There's a conflict between people that describe themselves as "Elite Buharists" and people that describe themselves as "Batists".

You, an online paid shameless Political syncophant who supports nobody but the Serial loser, Atiku, is berating a well learned, well bred and well traveled /exposed, Havard, MIT and University of Madinah Trained Professor of Cyber Security. Indeed, wonders shall never end.

Since Bosun Tijani was appointed, what really has he done apart from launching and relaunching useless online platforms?
He was busy criticizing Prof., now the mantle has be shifted to him and we are keenly watching.

"We are pleased to relaunch" for an outfit that was launched 4 years ago and did not at any point become obsolete. I know where the ish is from sha, when Pantami was initially appointed, they expected that he is just meant to fill a quota without even knowing the direction to point a mouse. Please stop calling Pantanmi professor. Or just call him professor of Islamic technology.

And as for critic Bosun, he should face work and make sure he uses his CC Hub experience to bring out the best out of Nigeria's innovation technology

I am a die hard fan of Tinubu but I don’t defend don’t defend them blindly.

I can categorically tell you that you are talking nonsense. As of today, that ministry was better under pantami than Bosun. Bosun still appears clueless so far.
