In the US Havard University is a private school and their students still access student loan. sometimes you need to remove bias so you can sensibly analyze issues.

Havard is not strictly private school

Student Loan is designed for less privileged. Those who hawk wares and or their parents struggle to pay bills and make ends meet.
Private Universities are not designed to cater to their needs. Private Universities are for students from well to do homes, those whose parents have fixed incomes and salary earnings to send them to school. For this reason they are not part of University Union and do not join strike.

Private Universities must be excluded from Student Loan program.

Thats a wrong assessment.

The academic calendar in Harvard does not stop because a teachers union is on strike. If you take loan for 4yr study, your grade and progress is tied as a condition to that loan. If you do not complete the term or year, or your grade drop below a threshold, then you will be disqualified from the loan scheme, and you must still pay the one you took.

In Nigeria, if teachers union strike, it does not affect private universities. For students in public universities, terms are interrupted, grades are screwed. This interruption affect their loan performance.

So two students, one in public, other in private, both study same course, took same loan and performance. If there is a union strike in first year, the public school student will be impacted academically, and will also regress in his loan. If private university student graduates in 4yr, public student may graduate 5yrs or more. He will end up owing far larger debt than his peer in private school.


So if you support loan eligibility for all, then support also that private universities join ASUU.

Bro, the highest defauters of Bank loans in Nigeria is the wealthy. If eventually there's economic downturn in the lives of such individuals, repayment falls on the stundent. So, looking at it from the student perspective, there's no guarantee the private university graduate will get a better and higher paying job than the Public University graduate. Repayment may end up being difficult and stressful because of higher debts.

You are not excluded, you choose to send your child to private institution when we have a federal one. This loan is for federal institution by government and not for private. We have high numbers of persons out there that couldn't further their education because they could not afford it. If the rich are included, how will the amount set for the loan be enough to get the poor back to school
