Dis Guy:

Average income c

onsiderably low internet penetration

poor customer service

poor infrastructure/postage services

ridiculously expensive some everyday items

lack of trust

traditional shopping channels

electrophobia grin
very good list.
On a related note, Kalahari closed its Nigerian operation few weeks back. They said it had no possibility of turning a profit in the near future. It had some of the best customer service i have experienced in Nigeria and the postal service was reliable. it was just unfortunate that most of its products were books.considering the fact that Nigerians are poor readers their failure made sense.

I tink it all boils down τ̅☺ TRUST & COST!!! Nigerians living I̶̲̥̅̊n̶̲̅ nigeria would want a safe delivery and of their order and ensure its being bought from a trusted website wit security features D̶̲̥̅̊aτ̲̅ prevents online fraud. And also †ђξ cost of shipping should be free. Jst like most online stores I̶̲̥̅̊n̶̲̅ †ђξ US do

We are getting there little by little, and soon enough with this whole cashless society thing we'll be further compelled to do more online shopping.

I work for an e-commerce company and prior to that i used to be one of the skeptics, trust really is a big issue in this business nonetheless everyday more and more Nigerians are trusting(u'll be amazed at our customer base) and are getting good results. It would be stupid for us to scam you if we want to stay in this business, because i obviously need you to come back and do more shopping. If we don't take a step forward we will not make any progress at all. And also miss out on some huge discounts some online shops have to offer.

www.circuitatlantic.com is a transparent e commerce site where you have the opportunity to shop in stores in the US (amazon, ebay, tigerdirect,e.t.c) pay in Naira, and have delivered to your door step.

So take a leap of faith today shop with www.circuitatlantic.com wink

We are located at No 8 Ladipo Kuku street, off Allen avenue Ikeja. Tel: 01-7746464

We have developed a hybrid ecommerce in our own business. We have a physical shop to showcase our presence but we keep it all streamlined to minimize cost. We allow you pay into our account so no card transaction wahala and we allow partial payment on order and the balance on delivery. We have been around for over 2 years with no body's goods or money missing.

The main issues from our perspective is trust and education. But I believe with time and a young population of over 65% ecommerce will continue to grow in Naija. Reminds me of dot com era in late 1990 and early 2000s.

We are O&O Gadgets. (www.oandogadgets.com) we service the whole of Nigeria and we can safely say we have sold to people in most states in Nigeria . We specialise it gadgets but we do all kinds of procurement. Some unique, others interesting. But we have definitely seen the growth in the market and we keep seeing new entrants daily. Fortunately the market is young and large so everyone can carve their own niche and customer base.

P.s start your Christmas shopping now, air cargo is getting overcrowded. Check us out at www.oandogadgets.com

Also for those that have family in the USA they want to send Christmas gifts to, We deliver gifts in the US too we will mail your items to family members, nieces, nephews etc. and you can pay in either Naira or dollars in Nigeria.

If you are not careful they will hack your debit card. There are so many fake websites out there set up to collect information on your card. Some boys will even hack your friend email and send mail to you that your friend do shop in a certain website if you try your card on it your money is gone.

I sell N200 ($1.49) apps online and I can say that the biggest issue is trust. I get a lot of calls just to verify that the app will be unlocked after the payment even with the free trial on the apps.
Trust is a thing a business must build over time anywhere in the world. With my current client base, if I had a N16,000 ($99.99) app tomorrow, they will not hesitate to pay.
I bet those who shop online abroad use popular sites like Yahoo, Amazon or Paypal. You wouldn't use your card on a site called www.buyCheapFromUs.com right?

I think mobile payment is going to be the way for Nigeria, companies like pagatech have already processed more than 100million in transactions and more than 30000 users.

Here's a different way to do your shopping online

Visit www.bigcatapult.com

You use your Nigerian debit cards to buy vouchers for Amazon, Asos.com and Apple in naira.
And then you use the vouchers to shop from those stores.
The voucher codes will be emailed to you within a couple of hours of purchasing.

I buy most of my stuff from a website called www.shopaholicng.com. They have nice, good quality stuff. More so, you pay cash on delivery. I have been using them for about 2yrs now. No complaints at all. They are the best in Nigeria believe me i have tried a lot of other online stores and i was really disappointed. If you must shop online choose a store that allows you to pay cash on delivery so there are no stories lol!

OYINBOGOJU: Most Nigerians love to take advantage of innocent who are trying to do good.

I bet they wont run away with money and goods.

The last time i bought washing machine from THE GAME it wasn`t working at first.

I called the customer service more than 2 times daily and yet still it took them 6 weeks before they could send someone down to fix it for me.

That was after i threaten them with Police and Lawyer

You exchange rate £ to NGN for 290 is too expensive compared to the current rate of 259, Wassuppp

Re: Why Won't People Use The Online Stores In Nigeria by chemashie(m): 7:27am On Dec 14, 2012
Everything boils down to trust and it is going to be gradual process. Most times we expect a first time customer to pay on delivery & for anyone buying large quantity, you are expected to make 30 or 40% payment upfront and balance on delivery. This method has really worked well for us & we ensure we don‘t break the trust. Some people still prefer to send the cash knowingfully well that they can come back to NL to rubbish your image & whatever you represent.
