that's why i just smh when i see people saying Abia State is this and that blah blah, yet they haven't been there, or just stopped at Aba (which i agree needs some work - but Aba has always been raggidy from time). The governor let the media have a field day and didnt spend unnecessary money to get people singing his praises all over the internet and nairaland as we have some people here believed to be on their governors pay roll lol. Take it or leave it, in the south east Abia is only behind Enugu and Imo (my opinion shaa) cause Umuahia is a beautiful city and Abia is God's own State! Una nugo!! |
Re: Abia State Diagnostic Center Video: by Kobojunkie: 3:31am On Nov 25, 2011 |
The information on this hospital has it that some of the idea was initiated by Nigerians in the diaspora, and much of the funding for the units came from them as well. I would hold back my praise -- ensure I investigate this past a video filled with lots of propaganda and less actual detail, so we can be certain that the governor did contribute as claimed to this project. http://odili.net/news/source/2011/aug/8/5.html http://www.igbofocus.com/html/abia_state.html |

Abia in Diaspora launches free treatment A medical team, under the auspices of Abia Professionals in the Diaspora, has launched free medical treatment mission to selected communities in Abia. The New York-based group visited Umu Ezike and Umuezemai communities in Ohuhu, Umuahia North Local Government Area, while members of the adjoining communities that could not be reached due to bad roads, converged at Umuezemai for the exercise. Not less than 1,000 people were treated. Mrs. Winifred Nnakwe, the President, Ohuhu Development Union, International, said that the association had always held their people back home in high esteem. "We have always held our people so dear to us and wanted an opportunity to give back to society. "So when this opportunity came our way during the meeting of Nigeria Medical Professionals in the U.S., we grabbed it," she said. Nnakwe said the group decided to concentrate on the rural areas for now "because we feel the people are not given attention and are dying of simple diseases that can ordinarily be cured’’. She said that the exercise was an eye opener as various life threatening ailments such as cancer and diabetes had been detected. "In the course of the mission, we found out that the people of Umu Ezike had embarked on self-help effort by building a health centre, though not equipped. "We then decided to equip the health centre and make it functional to complement their laudable efforts," she said. Nnakwe said some of the equipment donated to the health centre included hospital beds, mattresses, refrigerator, power generating set, water tank, trolleys and medical bed-side lockers. She said the objective of the mission was just be to treat ailments, but also to equip members of the communities with necessary information to live a healthy life. "We have found out that the lack of care is the most threatening ailment and we want them to get adequate information concerning immunisation and pre-natal care. Nnakwe said the medical mission would be sustained. "By the end of the exercise, we would have known the predominant diseases in these areas so as to plan well for our next visit." The president said that the group would partner with the state government to upgrade the Abia Specialist Hospital and Diagnostic Centre, through the installation of state-of-the-art facilities, to enhance its operations. Source: Daily Independent, 7th August 2011. http://www.igbofocus.com/html/abia_state.html |

lol *shakes head* no dey fall my hand like that nah. You edited your post and included a second link which you post the contents, but again fails to support what you said that "some of the idea was initiated by nigerians in diaspora and much of the funding for the units came from them as well", yet absolutely no where in what you posted did it say those (kind and wonderful) people in diaspora have anythiing to do with thee diagnostic center. I'm not sure why you aren't getting it, did you watch the video? maybe that's it, cause you'll see that we're talking of ultra sound machines, CT scanners, digital x-ray machines etc and not beds, pillows and refridgerators (which were not indicated to be given to this diagnostic centre), i rest my case, Kobo, Maybe you're right, i need your type of education to see the connection between those links you gave and the video in the topic. |

Abia indigenes partner govt on dialysis centre http://odili.net/news/source/2011/aug/8/5.html AN Endoscopic and Dialysis Centre may soon be built in Abia State following talks between the state government and professional indigenes of the state resident abroad. . Medical Director of the Abia State Specialist Hospital and Diagnostic Centre, Prof. Augustus Mbanaso, made this disclosure at the weekend in his Umuahia office while receiving a delegation of Abia professionals in the Diaspora comprising representatives of Ohuhu Development Union International resident in New York, United States (U.S.) led by an architect, Mrs. Winifred Ngozi Nnakwe. . Mbanaso said already, the site of the proposed endoscopic/dialysis centre has been inspected by specialists from the U.S. and that works would soon start on it. He also said there were other areas in the health sector where the professionals' attention would be required beside medical missions. . Prof. Mbanaso said medical missions were good and has the main aim of sensitising residents to patronise the primary health centres first from where they would be referred to secondary and tertiary facilities. Nnakwe, who is also president, Ohuhu Development Union International, said they were in the state on a medical mission to provide medicare to Abia indigenes in the rural areas. Her delegation, she said, had already provided the health centres at Ofeme with medical equipment consisting of hospital beds, mattresses, pillows, a power-generating set, refrigerator and treated over 500 people in Nkwoegwu, Umuezeama and Umuezike Ofeme, all in Umuahia-North Council. |

OK, we have agreed, those centers don't exist in Abia. The straw beds we call specialist equipment were donated by foreigners. Just leave our Abia like that for us. |

@Kobojunkie, -Please watch the video, u would see that what u are talking about is quite different from what is being presented here. - The OP posted the link with the video for all to see. . . there should be no need for debate here. TA Orji has done an incredible job here. For the first time, I'm proud of him. |

I hope somebody is not suggesting that those medical equipment were simulated. The important thing is that the lab is working. However thanks to Igbo in diaspora. |

No amount of makeup can beautify an ape, an ape by nature is meant to be ugly. T.A Orji or Thief After Orji is by nature a thief who have no idea of what governance is yet alone transformation. Paid praise singers on Nairaland obviously do not live in Abia State. There are no such health facility. The ABSUTH Aba is no more than a glorified General Hospital. Enough of all this cheap publicity. |

Kc3000: When you watch a video, make sure to do your research to be sure what the video says is even close to correct in all wise. The Video tells you that the Project was a T.A Orji project. But a simple research will reveal to you that the project to UPGRADE the Diagnostic centre with state of the art machines was not his. I am not sure how many of you know this but Abia has had a diagnostic centre for a long time now. The Diagnostic centre itself is NOT NEW. What is new here is the equipping of the facility and in the other adding of more units(the Dialysis unit, according to one of the articles there) . Stop swallowing propaganda videos your leaders in office serve you as if you are zombies. DO YOUR RESEARCH to ENSURE that they even had a hand in the development they are claiming, and know that work is actually being done with the MONEY YOU HAVE ENTRUSTED to them. Can any of you here tell me how much Abia State itself spent on this project? Anyone? Probably none of you so-called educated, internet savvy individuals here can but you are QUICK to dole out praises to the governor simply on 6 minute or thereabout video you just watched. According to the articles(Hosted on ibo sites for those of you xeno's out there, this project was the brain of Abians in Diaspora). http://www.docstoc.com/docs/30325709/Report-of-Educational-Medical-Mission-To-Abia-State-(Umuahia) -- Check out this document to see what the group has been doing and how long . . . . this is likely the group you should praise, not T.A Orji. Stop acting like morons -- this is reason why Abia has not been able to get rid of these same goons for 12 years. They show you all a propaganda video, instead of you asking questions, you all immediately bow down to praise the Governor, and then go to the polls to re-elect them. Then you start to pretend someone IMPOSED him on you all |
Re: Abia State Diagnostic Center Video: by odumchi: 5:46pm On Nov 25, 2011 |
Abia state has really gotten better. However, it's only problem is Aba. Other than that, Abia has improved a lot in all departments: security, power, and even power commerce. The government has spent quite Some money repairing most of the major roads, and the Aba-PortHarcourt road is very neat, spacious and most importantly well maintained. Security has also stepped up. Every quarter mile or so you'll find a police checkpoint stationed with well armed mobile-policemen and sometimes you'll find their armoured vehicles. As for electricity, most places in Abia state have been enjoying uninterrupted electricity for nearly a year now. The thing is that 75% of the people here who are talking down on Abia state have not stepped in ot or have only been to Aba. |
Re: Abia State Diagnostic Center Video: by EzeUche(m): 6:15pm On Nov 25, 2011 |
odumchi: My brother you spoke the truth. I was in Abia in July and August and what I saw on the ground was very good. Security was good. Roads were getting paved. You cannot believe everything you read on the internet. I doubt some of our Igbo brethren has been to Abia in the past year or even 5 years. Aba is the only problem in Abia, but the city has NEVER been known to be a clean city, but it is a industrial city. Industrial cities are mostly dirty. Re: Abia State Diagnostic Center Video: by Kobojunkie: 6:23pm On Nov 25, 2011 |
Aba has NEVER always been a dirty state. Let's not now pretend that the city has ALWAYS been hopeless. Aba used to be one of the best cities on the East of Nigeria for many decades, until the decay started. Pretending the Aba situation is always been a hopeless one is to pretend that Faulks road has ALWAYS been he pit, governor after governor, has allowed it in the past 2 decades. |

Re: Abia State Diagnostic Center Video: by EzeUche(m): 6:32pm On Nov 25, 2011 |
Kobojunkie: You want to continue the lies that Abia state is not progressing. No one is saying that Aba is hopeless, but to generalize a whole state, because of one industrial city is not right. Abia still looks better than Anambra state. Onitsha is worse than Aba, but you do not see people mocking all of Anambra, because of that commercial city. |
Re: Abia State Diagnostic Center Video: by Kobojunkie: 6:37pm On Nov 25, 2011 |
