Pandemonium gripped Delta State on Saturday morning following the alleged bombing, by unknown persons, of the Central Mosque in Sapele, in the Sapele local government area.

The explosion, it was reliably learnt, left early worshippers with various injuries. They were said to be receiving treatment in a hospital after being rejected at the multi-billion Naira Delta State Teaching Hospital at Oghara.

The cause of the explosion was uncertain as of press time, but investigations suggest that it may be connected to some friction among Muslims worshippers at the mosque.
A source disclosed to this reporter that there have been disagreements on the mode of worship at the mosque following the introduction, by a new Iman, of preaching in Hausa, Arabic and English. The new method was said to have met with the disapproval of a section of worshippers who insisted on pure Arabic preaching.

Eyewitnesses said that the bomb was thrown into the mosque by two passersby. It caused a loud noise and one Tanko Musu and several other persons received various wounds. The interior of the mosque was destroyed.

All efforts by this reporter to see the allegedly damaged section of the mosque proved abortive as it was placed under lock upon the instruction of the Hausa Saraki, who said he was awaiting the arrival of the state commissioner of police to brief him of the incident.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Charles Muka, confirmed the incident but denied it was a bomb explosion.

“It was not a bomb explosion; it was a fire incident which only affected a section of the mosque and apart from one person that sustained injury there were no other casualties. Already, we have commenced investigations into the incident.”

I'm from Sapele, and I know where this mosque is located,  so sad to see this happen to a once peaceful town,  !! the police commissioner is a corrupt pig, so do not be deceived by his statements, they may try and play it down, but I guess it may be some in fighting as suggested, , try to verify opinions through reliable sources,
