What do we expect of governments that enthrones criminals as monarchs? And what would commoners do when monarchs desecrate the throne?

Imo Assembly recommends monarch’s sack
SUNDAY, 18 DECEMBER 2011 00:00 STEVE UZOECHI, OWERRI HITS: 214

These are clearly not the best of times for Eze Cletus Ilomuanya, the Chairman of the South East Council of Traditional Rulers, whose sack as traditional ruler was ratified by the Imo State House of Assembly.

The state Assembly urged Governor Rochas Okorocha to endorse the dethronement of Ilomuanya in accordance with Section 14(1) c, d, e, of the Traditional Rulers and Autonomous Community Law No. 6 of 2006.

The House, after a probe, held that it had sufficient proof that Eze Cletus Ilomuanya is an ex-convict.
The Assembly ratified the report of its five-man ad-hoc committee which looked into petitions lodged by indigenes of Obinugwu community where Ilomuanya was the traditional ruler.

One Ikechukwu Obi, an indigene of the community had in his petition alleged that the monarch, Eze Ilomuanya, is a fraudster and an ex-convict.
He blamed the Imo State government for having inflicted the community with shame and reproach by having its royal stool occupied by Eze Ilomuanya whom he alleged was a known fraudster and an ex-convict. He added that only the government could undo the wrong by removing Ilomuanya.

Mr. Obi tendered a certified copy of judgement of Cross River State High Court, Calabar Judicial Division Holden at Calabar before His Lordship Hon. Justice U. J. Udofia dated 13th day of August, 1990, charge No. C/93C/89, which convicted Cletus Ilomuanya and one Uchenwoye MacNeilson on a two-count charge to buttress his allegation of fraud against the embattled monarch.

The committee which was headed by Hon. Emeka Nwofor thereafter recommended that the House resolve to urge the Imo State governor to withdraw recognition accorded Cletus Ilomuanya as the traditional ruler of Obinugwu Autonomous Community.

The Assembly’s hammer also fell on another traditional ruler, Eze Cosmos Onyeneke, who was already serving an indefinite suspension from the state government for complicity in a kidnap case.

Onyeneke, the traditional ruler of Lagwa Autonomous Community in Aboh Mbaise council area was also accused of being an ex-convict in a petition presented by the Town Union president of Lagwa, Hon. Matthew Osuagwu and one D. O Amadi.

Osuagwu submitted a certified copy of judgement of Aboh Mbaise Magistrate Court which convicted Onyeneke of the theft of a power generator in 1988.

However, Kennedy Eweama, the Press Secretary to Eze Cletus Ilomuanya has dismissed the house decision as a setup against his principal, stating that the said court document was forged. He urged the Assembly not to make a caricature of itself.

Good move. Ezes in the east should lead by example. Fraudsters should not be made Ezes/Obis/Igwes in their respective kingdoms.
For Imo state legislative chamber, Ezes should be screaned before they are crowned.
