An appeal court sitting in Enugu today sacked two of Anambra state’s lawmakers, Senator Andy Uba and Hon. Uche Ekwunife.

A five man panel of the Court of Sppeal led by Justice Helen Moronkeji Ogunwumiju ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC to conduct fresh elections in the designated constituencies.

Chief petitioner and candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance APGA, Chuma Nzeribe had claimed that last April's senatorial elections were marked by gross irregularities and massive rigging in Aguata constituency of Anambra state and as such should be rendered null and void. The appellate court in its ruling agreed with the petitioner and has ordered for fresh elections in the affected area. It also ordered Uba to vacate his seat in the Senate, pending when INEC conducts a remedial election

The appellate panel in another judgement has ordered Hon Uche Ekwunife to vacate her seat, while INEC conducts another round of elections in Aniocha LGA. Hon Ekwunife, a former APGA governorship candidate in Anambra state had served as member of the House of Representatives as a member of the PDP, late last year she decamped to APGA and was handed the party's ticket to the dismay of aspirants who were long time party members.
