Only a graduate in the intellectual community can handle the office of the SSA students affairs, particularly former students leaders, so I don't think it is a bad ideal to give such office to a former NANS zone B ASG |

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF UNEMPLOYED GRADUATES(NAUG) PRESS BRIEFING OUR POSITION TO THE DELTA STATE GOVERNMENT AND THE OUTCOME OF OUR MEETING WITH THE GOVERNOR OF DELTA STATE Unemployment has been identified as the major catalyst to all forms violent crimes in Nigeria. It has been observed that the state of mind of an average unemployed youth is to kill, die or make life uncomfortable for others. The situation is aggravated by the widening gap between the rich and the poor. A situation where the poor people go to public places to watch the privileged people in government spending their collective wealth in drinking Champagne of N50,000 per bottle in less than a minute while it is difficult for an unemployed youth to get a job of N18,000 per month is not a good development for Nigeria. It is pertinent to note that unemployment is the major cause of criminal activities and violent crimes ranging from armed robbery, militancy, kidnapping to terrorism. It is even more disheartening to know that we have the God given natural resources to get out of this quagmire of unemployment that we found ourselves but government at all levels have chosen to ignore this important aspect of governance. The 1999 constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria section 14 sub- sections 2(b) made it very clear that the welfare and security of citizens shall be the primary purpose of government. It is our believe that any government that does not give priority attention to the welfare and security of its citizen has no reason to exist. Giving priority attention to the welfare of citizens is the surest way to ensure security. No amount of armored personnel carrier and police patrol vehicle can ensure security in an environment of poverty and hunger. OUR POSITION TO THE DELTA STATE GOVERNMENT Our position to the Delta State government includes but not limited to the following: that 1. The state government should have a yearly budget for youth empowerment and job creation in line with the UNESCO bench mark. 2. The state government should set up a state model of the federal government entrepreneurial development scheme called YOUWIN to train and genuinely establish youths with entrepreneurial ability in the state. 3. The state government should sponsor youths to get international certification such as welding inspection, pump and valve maintenance, under water welding certification, NIIT certification, etc to make our youths more viable for employment into multi-national and oil companies instead of investing N5million each for first class graduates to study any course abroad without bringing anything back to contribute to our national GDP. 4. The state government should set up farm settlement across the state and enact a law that will ensure that all youth coppers posted to Delta State are made to serve in the farm settlement and teach in our schools. This is very necessary because we have observed that one of the reasons for graduate unemployment in the state is that our people are posted to teach in rural areas in other states and after service they come back to join the army of unemployed graduates in the state while coppers from other states are posted to multinational and oil companies operating in the state to serve and a lot of them are retained after service. 5. The state government should upgrade existing technical colleges in the state to international standard where our youths can acquire skills that will make them self reliant and employable. Guidance and counseling section should be strengthened in schools to counsel students on their chosen career which should be well defined at primary school level. 6. The state government should establish a waste recycling plant where waste generated in the state can be converted into wealth. This will not only ensure a clean environment but it will also create jobs and contribute to our national GDP. THE OUTCOME OF OUR MEETING WITH HIS EXCELLENCY DR. EMMANUEL UDUAGHAN, THE GOVERNOR OF DELTA STATE. After an exhaustive deliberation between members of the National Association of Unemployed Graduates(NAUG) and the Governor of Delta State, the governor graciously approve the immediate employment of 200 unemployed graduates directly from the street into the Delta State Civil Service in order to reduce the effect of unemployment on the youths. The employment which was distributed among sister organizations whose members are part of us like Project Uduaghan, UGSM and the Believers Council which is the umbrella body of the intellectual community in Delta State, covers members from the 25 Local Government areas that make up Delta State. His Excellency, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan also set aside N1billion in the Bank of Industry for youth empowerment and job creation. The governor has also scheduled a meeting between the government, Bank of Industry and the leadership of NAUG where an understanding will be reached on how best the money can be administered practically to productively engage unemployed youths in Delta State. This is the first time unemployed youths are getting employment directly into the state civil service without the aid of House of Assembly members, commissioners and senators as against the practice in the past where employment slots are shared among house of assembly members, commissioners, senators and party stalwarts to give to their brothers and relatives while those who don’t have brothers in position of authority are made to remain jobless and miserable and in most cases end up as armed robbers and kidnappers. We want to thank His Excellency, Dr. Emmanuel Ewetan Uduaghan for breaking the jinx against all odd to give hope to the hopeless youths in Delta State. To this end therefore, we want to admonish unemployed youths/graduates who are engaged in armed robbery and kidnapping to sheath their sword and take advantage of the opportunities created by the governor in the Bank of Industry. We assure you that no politician will be allowed to highjack the opportunities from the targeted people who are the less privilege youths roaming the street as we are going to be directly involved in the process. We are in the street as well and we know how difficult it is to be in the street without support from anywhere. Signed: Comrade Ovie O. Sanco PRO NAUG |

UYCO:Picking people off d streets& giving dem automatic employment is d most laughable tin that ever came out of 2011;without verification, without knowing if u are employing murderers, its definitely sth which s/one who has just come out frm drinking 'N50k wine in a few minutes',in his drunken state wud do.Am not surprised though,Uduaghan, just like T.A.Orji has always appeared to me like a clown in govt, they simply av no idea what governance is all about. |

Doctowus Don't let Warri boys here you make this type of statement, it is obvious that you are not from Delta State. If you are living in Warri, you will thank the governor for picking people from the street. There is no gentle man in that part of the country, if you don't pick boys from the street, they will make life miserable for you. |
Re: Uduaghan Mesmerizes Unemployed Graduates With Multiple Employments by doctokwus: 4:16pm On Jan 01, 2012 |
UYCO:Is warri d whole of delta state. Then again how many boys can he pick frm d street& offer employment. This is similar to politicians giving people money to vote for them, later when they win& start embezzling mony, some people will complain. If u know Uduaghan,u shd tell him what he did is laughable& those who rejoiced for him employing them are glorified employees.Mark my words, those people will soon start agitating over mths of unpaid salaries.Uduaghan jst sold them& naïve puppetees like u a big, childish dummy. I repeat,d likes of Uduaghan shd not b millions of miles near any govt seat,he is an unfolding disaster, like his incarcerated cousin, ironic that as bad as Ibori was, some people now evn say he has bn betta than ur present clown of a gov |

UYCO: My guy, you are a fool without principles. People who blow in the wind are traitors who will sell their mothers. You spent the whole of last year brutally condemning Uduaghan and campaigning for his removal; but suddenly, after you have been given a sniff of the loot, your tune has changed from one ugly note to the other and Uduaghan now has "mesmerising" moves. You are a disgusting and sickening creature from the gutter. Phucking pathetic. |

Re: Uduaghan Mesmerizes Unemployed Graduates With Multiple Employments by UYCO: 7:07pm On Jan 01, 2012 |
@Beaf you are yet to convince me on why I should continue to be against the governor. The man has decided to do things differently, he has pitched tent with the masses instead of PDP, the youths are benefiting and you want us to continue to be against him. What was the reason for the agitation? |

UYCO: How can I convince you to be principled? Integrity and principle are not things that anyone can walk out of the gutter and wear like a necklace. Were you not the same person who was willing to sell your heritage for a pittance to strangers right here on NL? Some of those strangers are now poking fun at you, let that be the thing that teaches you and leave me out of it. Pitiful shiit. |
Re: Uduaghan Mesmerizes Unemployed Graduates With Multiple Employments by UYCO: 10:58pm On Jan 01, 2012 |
@Rhino5dm Thanks for your willingness to support us at the time of our struggle. We are neither associated with the PDP nor the opposition party. We are a group of youths who felt it is our right to be served by the government. It is only an unrepentant opposition group that will castigate a man continually even when the man is doing the right thing. The point at which we made a U-turn was the point at which the governor started doing things differently and the man is performing. Should we continue to attack His Excellency when he is performing? If we don’t appreciate the good things he has done, how do we encourage him to do more? We are not sycophants, we say things the way they are. |
