US Economy Created 200,000 Jobs In December, What's Wrong With Nigeria?! by maxani: 9:32pm On Jan 08, 2012
US economy creates 200,000 jobs in December,
The unemployment rate dropped to 8.5%,
Large job gains were seen in retail, manufacturing, transportation and warehousing and healthcare.
For 2011 as a whole, some 1.6 million jobs were created, which was the highest since 2006, led by rises in the private sector.

source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-16445441

USA has approx. 300 million people, fed by 2.2 million farms and provides $23.9 billion dollars in discretionary funding for agriculture in 2012 budget.

What is wrong with us in Nigeria? cant we at least learn how these countries are making progress? we can't event account for good statistics in agriculture let alone improvement in production!!
Pls, is there anyone who knows the URL if the federal ministry of agriculture has a website?!!! i've searched and cant find the official site!!!! help!!!

Bad Leadership. Look no further - How many times has Obama gone out of the US to look for business opportunities for american firms and equal that to useless trips by the Past and Present leaders of Nigeria

@OP
The US has a properly functioning system backed by philosophies that have stood the test of time since the founding faters.

You will find that those things are done by the private sector, states and municipal authorities (LG's). What pressure have you put on your state and LG, abi you tink say na magic? Why are they still begging the FG for money after 51 years of existence? Why is there not a single state that can stand on its own, talkless of being like a US state like Carlifornia with its Silicon valley?

In Nigeria, the states and LG's exist only to beg the FG for money. That is what is wrong with the country. We claim to be a federal state, whereas in reality the entire structure is legalised patronage and an official version of the almajiri beggar system.

It doesn't end with the politicians alone, just check out the citizens too. All this time, they failled to demonstrate for true federalism and an equitable and just citizen-state contract, they failed to demonstrate against corruption and the embarrassment of their states being little more than begging institutions with a position on the map. However, today they have been moved by the unwillingness to make a sacrifice for the future to carry out massive demonstration; something they forgot to do about the numerous boko haram killings.

The Nigerian problem is deep and can only be traced to the advent of military regimes that wiped out all traces of established procedure and orderliness for brute force, aggression and impunity. The Nigerian of today is traumatised and unreasoning, a mere husk that has been reduced to base instincts. It is a shame.

Everything is wrong with Nigeria, but take a closer looks at the jobs being created.

Those are seasonal jobs (Christmas, new Year etc) . By the end of January it'll possibly be back to -200,000 jobs.

^ alright labaran maku, the same way GEJ brought facebook to Nigeria. You guys are stup1d
@illeke di, those cannot all be seasonal jobs. We have had xmas and new years since 2006. The post said this is the first since 2006. Even then, you should try to learn to read and you thinking that ALL seasonal jobs will vanish shows how shallow you are

Mr. Globe, that probably why they say if you want to hide something from a nigeria, put it in a book. (how sad!). Anyways, GEJ has said in his budget speech that:

"34. , The Agricultural sector is being totally transformed to enable us move from traditional farming to modern agriculture as a business both for our small and large- scale farmers. Our objective is to ensure food security whilst also promoting exports"

It will help if for once a government can actually give us some credible statistics and precise steps planned to end unemployment, poor infrastructure and inefficiency of government agencies and political offices gulping tax funds and oil revenue!

removing oil subsidy because of a so-called "cabal" is like refusing to bring money to the house because your child is now seriously stealing. The solution is to discipline the child, otherwise armed robbery is inevitable for that child.

The government should start by publishing what NAAS members and senators take home monthly and how much they'll take home after the 25% salary cut.

then a list of funds released for projects, the contractor and the amount released should be published by the federal, state and local governments from now on.
no more stories, no more deception! enough is enough!

No reason or explanation has been given as to why things are not working in the country. All we seem to hear are phrases like " we are on top of it", "looking into it" "consulting with stake holders" "setting up a committee" e.tc.

by the way , still cant find the official URL for the federal ministry of agriculture, anybody? pls? I'd like to know

Firstly, not everybody in Nigeria believes in the concept of PROGRESS, let alone improving themselves via education, or contributing to the National Good, Wealth or Economy (lets face it, otherwise there would not be such chronic cases of capital flight and sabotage).

Secondly, to put it succinctly, the vested interest and influence of those profiting from the status quo of mass poverty, exploitation and corruption outweighs the influence of the exploited masses.

Unless there is a complete SYSTEM overhaul, the State along with its apparatus will continue to malfunction.

What is wrong with Nigeria is that, there is no Nigeria, all you have is people from diff regions pretending to be Nigerians while not willing to make sacrifcices, plans and initiatives that'll move "Nigeria" forward, cept their own region, Even at that, nothing still works coz the head is dead, so it's body stinks in rot, There's nothing wrong with Nigeria when it's been all wrong from the very first day it was created.
Re: US Economy Created 200,000 Jobs In December, What's Wrong With Nigeria?! by igbo2011(m): 4:08am On Jan 09, 2012
All we need to do is cut the politicians and government expenses by 70 to 90% then that money can be used for agriculture and processing and millions of people will be employed in months. Nigeria could have the ability to feed all of Africa. And Africa has the ability to feed the whole world. We need to utilize agriculture. Oil was a curse to Nigeria. We have great farmers before but I guess the dutch disease came to us.

Its obvious that what needs to be removed is not oil subsidy but corruption!!!

Who created the jobs in America? And what makes you think that jobs are not being created in Nigeria?
Re: US Economy Created 200,000 Jobs In December, What's Wrong With Nigeria?! by maxani: 7:46am On Jan 10, 2012
Nobody said no jobs were being created in Nigeria. What we are taking about here is the relativity. Are there enough to reduce the rate of unemployment significantly? Is there an enabling environment for the private sector to create the number required to absorb the huge number of graduated Nigeria produces every year? IF you have proof, facts and figures that this is so, kindly provide.
