Nigeria’s military have been celebrating a surge of victories over Boko Haram insurgents in recent weeks, including the capture of Gwoza, the headquarters of the deadly Jihadists.

But their Chadian counterparts are not impressed with their attitude in the campaign.
Chad’s President Idriss Deby accused Nigeria of downplaying the threat from Boko Haram and failing to cooperate with the regional coalition battling the jihadists, saying there had been zero contact between their armies.

“The whole world is asking why the Nigerian army, which is a big army… is not in a position to stand up to untrained kids armed with Kalashnikovs,” Deby told French magazine Le Point, in an interview published this week.

Chad, Cameroon and Niger have joined forces since January to battle Boko Haram, whose insurgency has claimed more than 13,000 lives in northern Nigeria since 2009.

But Deby said he was baffled by the Nigerian government’s lack of cooperation with the offensive.

“Two months after the start of this war, we have not had any direct contact with the Nigerian army units on the ground,” he told the French weekly.

“We would have hoped to have at least one Nigerian unit with us. It was even a direct request to the Nigerian government, but for reasons that escape us, up to now we have been unable to work together.”

Not wishing to be seen as foreign occupiers, Chadian troops have had to abandon towns they have taken from Boko Haram forces, letting the jihadists return.

“The Chadian army is fighting alone in its part of the Nigerian interior and that is a problem. We have had to retake certain towns twice,” Deby told Le Point.

“We are forced to abandon them and Boko Haram returns, and we have to go back. That has a human and material cost.”
– ‘Too serious to ignore’ –
Deby also criticised Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan, who is seeking re-election on Saturday, for downplaying the Boko Haram threat and attempting doomed peace talks in October.

“I told President Goodluck not to open negotiations with terrorists … but it was a political choice,” said Deby, adding that Boko Haram were only using the talks to buy time and regroup.

“It has become something too serious for Nigerians to ignore. The blood of the dead that we have been counting every day for the past few years demands attention.”

Deby said Boko Haram’s actions now amounted to “genocide” and estimated the group had some 20,000 fighters.
He told Le Point he was not surprised by Boko Haram’s recent swearing of allegiance to the Islamic State group, saying they had been working together for some time.

“(IS) has always trained young people from Boko Haram in the use of explosives, the use of heavy weapons and armoured vehicles. They are trained by (IS) in Libya… and are then sent to Nigeria,” he said.

“I’m not surprised that (Boko Haram leader) Abubakar Shekau, who has difficulties at the moment… is trying to make people believe that he only just made contact with them.”
He called for a mixed multi-national force to be established as quickly as possible, with UN and African Union backing, and said he hoped a conference of central and west African countries in early April would lead to a larger coalition.

It is really sad that the president of ordinary small chad can make sense more than our president and even be teaching our president what to do.

Deby also criticised Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan, who is seeking re-election on Saturday, for downplaying the Boko Haram threat and attempting doomed peace talks in October.
“I told President Goodluck not to open negotiations with
terrorists … but it was a political choice,” said Deby, adding
that Boko Haram were only using the talks to buy time and
regroup.

Clueless Ebele will never listen to those people wiser than him. He ignored sound advise from Deby but heeded the clueless security chiefs he placed around him. Yet when the _shit hit the fan he ran back to the same Deby for help.

Very good question.

The last time the Chadian army accused our army of cowardice, Chris Olukolade came out accusing them of being thieves. Now that no less a person than the president of Chad has come out to reiterate those criticisms, I am really looking forward to Olukolade's response to this.

This man should better stop making noise in the media and get back to work. If the Nigerian army isn't co-operating why not call the C.I.C and settle it instead of always running to the media. The same way he told the media that he knows where shekau is hiding but till this day the i.d.iot is yet to be found.

It is getting clear that elements in the GEJ administration benefited from the terror unleashed on Nigerians in the North

When the President was informed about the situation in Gwoza- what was is response? Where is Gwoza sef- That is an illustration of how useless, divisive, incompetent and ridiculous Jonathan is.

He allowed terrorism to fester in the country for selfish reasons and he also used the situation to enrich his associates.

All of a sudden-24 hours to an important election, they are reclaiming territories abandoned for 6 years. Yeye dey smell

You cannot deceive Nigerians - this is the 21st Century

Change is here!

Will this mignet of a President keep his fhuccking mouth SHUT for goodness sake!!! Imagine the insolence!! Chad??

When an army anywhere in the world liberates a territory, it does mop up operations for as much as it takes to clear the territory and it's surrounding of the insurgents and then HOLDS THE PLACE for as long as it is necessary to secure complete victory. You don't drive out the insurgents today, call the global media tomorrow, leave the day after and expect a different army which did not initially participate in the fight and so would not fully understand the fluidity of the operating security situation to take over and hold the town almost immediately for you. That is jus fooolishness. What for fhucck's sake is the role of Chad in the multinational operation then?? You have only liberated 3 or 4 towns close to the border, and you cannot hold these towns for some time?? You are expecting another army that is extremely busy fighting the same war in 3 other different fronts to come and hold the small territories you've liberated for you.

The Nigerian Military is currently operating in 3 States and an area said to be bigger than Belgium in size. It has recovered over 42 towns (including the largest and most difficult of former towns held by BH) and about 14 LGA from Boko haram. It has succeeded in carrying mop up operations in all these territories and is HOLDING EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM. Not a single one of these liberated territory on the Nigerian side have fallen back to the terrorists since their liberation. Yet the loudmouthed Chad cannot do the same in just only 3 or 4 it has liberated. Why the helll did they then agree to be part of the MNJF in the 1st place??

I think it is about time any sane Nigerian, unfortunately not all of us are sane judging from some of the comments on this thread already, began to ask what the real interests of the Chadians are in this war against Boko haram.

I no Blame dem sha. Na Nigeria wey allow them enter in the 1st place I blame

This is the stuff of ridicule Jonathan has reduced Nigeria to even in West Africa. Most nauseating is his taking credits for victories he has no idea whatsoever how they came about.

This is the worst this country has ever been in its history. Jonathan hasn't the least quality it takes to be a leader. He simply accidentally stumbled into Aso Rock and we will deliberately send him packing tomorrow.

The supporters of the clueless heartless idio.t ruling Nigeria won't want to believe this.

They think the whole world is conspiring against their flawless brother because their brains is just mucous matter. I said in another thread, Boko Haram was a ragtag gang of Political Thug of Alimodu Sheriff who became too big for the local authority when the State Government had no further need for them.after the elections of 2007.

JonaTAN has threaded same path with the ill-advised pipeline contract to OPC few days to election, what happened after the elections and OPC contracts are revoked won't they use their New arms cache on the citizenry.

Only blind, stupid, brainless followers of the PDP will not see the same plot in the OPC arrangement.

Just wait if per chance GEJ wins Shekau will get CONTRACT TO PROTECT THE VAST BORDER OF THE NORTH EAST. JonaTAN is not worth a ward chairman of a political party.

Watch as he goes into political oblivion from May 29th 2015 like the uncelebrated Ernest Shonekan who foolishly allowed himself to be used by IBB.

Imagine the Chad army having to recover some towns twice from the insurgents with our own army nowhere to be found. Funny enough the Nigerian army is always quick to announce those towns captured by the chad forces without disclosing the fact that it was not their effort.

I just can't understand the level of stupidity some Nigerians express. We accept every rubbish from those oratoric Chadian forces and their lying president. What would it take him to pick his phone and call GEJ to express his anger to him? Why are our neighboring countries acting soo hostile to this president? Is it because he is not a Muslim like them? Week after week we see lies coming from the direction of those Chadian orators geared towards maligning our gallant men; lies that are eventually exposed for what they are. No matter how they try to be little our military only the exploit of the battle field will tell for real where we stand...they can keep doing the talking while we keep doing the bombardment and getting our needed victory.

Guy, use ur brain now. Deby was never the instigator. He advised Jonathan not to negotiate with them but Jonathan refused. Do you expect him to force Jonathan to heed his advice. If he didn't offer to host it Jonathan would have said that chad isn't committed to seeing an end to the boko haram menace. Remember boko haram also carry out operations in chad. The fact that Deby was willing to host the talks does not change the fact that he advised our president not to engage in it in the first instance.

You still don't get it. Chad forces are currently in control of some towns with Nigerian army nowhere to be found. They have been shouting that the Nigerian army should cone and take over those towns yet nobody is answering them. If they abandon those towns boko haram will take them over again
Didn't you read d part where their president said that they have to retake some towns twice from boko haram because anytime they leave without handing over to the Nigerian army the boko guys will just come back. That is what the president is angry about. He said ordinarily they should be fighting alongside Nigerian forces not fighting alone. Now chad is in control of some towns in Nigerian territory. Thats wrong.
