People please do not turn Violent.

This is about FIGHTING CORRUPTION. The Budget (Federal, State, Local) is the MASTER DOCUMENT for government's revenu and exependiture.
That is the INSTRUMENT that is used to tackle corruption AT SOURCE not the after-the-act EFFC and the Judiciary where members of the NBA make tgheir money.

GEJ should NOT REVERSE the fuel subsidy.

Consumption should NOT be subsidized.

In fact he has other SUBSIDIES to REMOVE ( PHCN, Agriculture, Road/Railroads).

GEJ has started very well. He REPEALED THE OFFICIAL SECRETS ACT in 2010. That little know decree was the basis of Nigeria's corruption.

Since time lost until year, under the Official Secrets Act, it ILLEGAL punishable by IMPRISONMENT for anyone to ask for or to Disclose the DETAILS of ANY GOVERNMENT BUDGET !!!!.

YES !!

By repealing the relevant parts of the Official Secrets Act, you and I can now ask for the full details of all government budgets ( Federal, State and Local). We should COMMEND GEJ !!!.

But under military rule every 1st of January, the National Budget was read to the solemn national anthem. The leaders the proceeded to spend the money as they wished.

Recall also that in 1999 that it was AFTER OBJ was sworn in as President that Gen. Abubakar gave OBJ the 1999 Constitution. Since then we have been operating a democracy with a MILITARY mindset. Every "leader" is a "commmander". Speaker Bankole locked out the ELECTED members ofHouse of Rep memebers who accus him of corruption and demanded an apology before he would PERMIT them to return.

Because of the immunity and impunity, Corruption became endemic.

With our access to the details of government budgets, we can see the bloat in goverment expenditure.

The Government should be RESPONSIBLE for housing or feeding ministers, government executives or legislatures.

The NLC, the NBA and the House of Representatives are NOT ANGELS at all.

When Sanusi Lamido revealed that 25% of the National Budget was spent on the National Assembly no one supported him. Not the clergy, the NBA or the NLC. Shortly thereafter the former Speaker of the House of Reps was arrested for borrowing from the banks and spending 40 BILLION NAIRA in additon to what was budgeted for. Sanusi fought a lone fight. He was disparaged by the House of Reps. The NBA, the NLC, Pastor Bakare and Mallam Rufai did not come to fight corruption.

The fuel subsidy has to be removed because it is the sure way to stop the Corruption in that business. The fight against Corruption must BE INSITUTIONAL AND PROCESS BASED. The EFCC and the Judiaciary have not been effective becasue that approach is based on the PERSONALITY of the EFCC Chairman of a particular judge.

Please read Sanusi Lamido's details of how the Fuel Subsidy FRAUD is perpetrated by excutives of the petrol industry, Nigerian Customs, oil industry regulators etc. This will give an idea of the vast scope and depth of the FRAUD.

Also please remember that NLC is not necessarily fighting for the masses. It has never called a stricke over food or agriculture (becauuse the unons from that sector is not a major contibutor to NLC's finances) nor over Corruption. Never. The NLC strikes only for Oil sectore, PHCN and the Old Nitel.
President Obasanjo sold the refineries to the private sector. The same NLC resisted and got President YarAdua to make a political decision to reverse the sale. Recently GEJ approved that the salaries of PHCN workers should be tripled to secure their support for the power sector reforms but requested that each PHCN staff should be verified by biometric. The NLC and PHCN union accepted the pay increase but went on strike over the biometric testing. But the government knows that without biomentric testing the slary increase will become another bottomless opportunity to STEAL money. For you dear reader, PHCN/NLC have refused to continue with the Pay-As-Use electronic meter because it closes a major opportunity for PHCN to steal your money through their spurious bills.

The FIGHT AGAINST CORRUPTION IS NOT EASY AND IS NOT PAIN LESS.

People like you are paid agents. Just joined today.
NO e mail, no photograph. faceless.

GEJ is not fighting corruption, he is fighting the masses.

To fight corruption, let him go after those who are making the refineries redundant.

Let him reduce the fat allowances for him and the political class.

Let him go after the fat cats in the civil service whose directors can buy a whole town.

Let him reduce the his food budget from #1billion naira to reasonable amount.

Let him stop building houses for senate president and the speaker when they are not
now living in the rain.

etc. etc, etc

We are ready to sacrifice, only if they are ready.

after killing an innocent Nigerian reading newspaper,
the police always act stupid and foolish, as if they did not pass through physical and mental(code of conduct and ethics of profession) training,
please let them attack the station, may be after all this struggle, Nigeria will be re-shaped,

When people protest out of sentiment rather than commonsense, things are bound to turn sentimental.
This unfortunate event marks the end of the occupy protest; it will now likely be put done with brutal methods. I pray everyone returns home safely without further loss of life.

it is very sad that a lot of people are misinforming Nigerians. How can i listen to Dino Melaye - student union activitist who knew all along he wanted to do politics and threw his school into endless closures just to feather his own political ambition?

How can i listen to sahara reporters - who very obviously concoct lies just to get at the government of the day?

NLC - just because u want to be seen to always be on the side of the masses always misinforming Nigerians?

Nigeria yi ti gbogbo wa ni o! If things degenerate into a civil war, may we not bite our fingers in regret o!

Protest but not violently pls, a colleague told me on Sunday that ppl will die, i responded to him that to reduce my risk of not dieing i will sit in my house.

I am for fuel subsidy removal - what i believe labour should hold government accountable for is to how to utilise the savings - clear work plan with milestones. What i can see from all the protests is that ppl want the status quo to remain the same - pray how can we move forward as a country if things remain the same?

Some of you people are just failing to see reason. The guy that was killed in Ogba was not even protesting and trigger happy policemen killed him. This is not even about the protest and you are attributing the protest to the mayhem happening in Ogba now, how callous can some human beings be. God will judge you and ur conscience will not give you rest.

The eediot called badluck couldnt do anything for boko haram killing people, he went and attack nigerians instead.

Deregulation is good but let's be sincere, the government will do anything that will fetch more money into their pockets. @whitehawk and @naijanile, thank you for being analytic rather than sentimental. Most Nigerians fail to  this as an opportunity to hold govt to deliver on what the masses demand. They are misled to protest for the wrong cause by men who have been sponsored to cause mischief in pretense to help the masses. Let's protest but for the right reasons which we should define to govt such as cutting govt excesses, building refineries and other infrastructure. We should define the time with which govt must deliver and policies that must be set in place. That is what the struggle should be, and not bringing back subsidy which will kill us in near future and leave desolation for our posterity, now that we are free from the bondage of the so called cabals that have wrecked us since successive govts, let's act as free men and take our destinies in our own hands. Pls let's use this opportunity well and avoid myopic misplaced priorities

The Egytians and tunisians kept vigil at the protest ground. They wailed and cried against corruption and they came out in millions.
You guys go to bed by 5pm, dance and play music and party 10am till 1pm insisting you want corruption to continue. Were you guys up to 5,000 compare that to lagos population. I fail to see how you will achieve the result egyptians achieved??

@MaryJames9- e never reach abuse now. we are all having a discussion here.

just try to calm down and analyse the issues properly. I find that a lot of people just oppose the government for no reason at all - most of the time based on mis-information from the press and people who just hate the government's guts.

My prayer for you is that you will get into Government one day - then i will refer you to this particular post (Ask Adams Oshiomole, now he knows better, courageous man in my opinion).

There is nothing wrong with pms subsidy removal but there is everything wrong with"wrong timing in policy implenmentation"GEJ is being mislead.
Before you forget;the pms subsidy is the only benefit the commoners enjoy from the FG,let's shift some of the fire to the NASS men and women who get paid billions in salaries and allowances.they are always quick to vote more money for themselves at every turn.why not they take a pragmatic step in the direction of cutting their salaries by 50% or lower and scraping off their allowances?
Back to the issue of discuss.
GEJ has taken some great steps in the area of expartriate quota and local content issues;ensuring that nigerians got the jobs they rightly deserved and that Nigerians got flow station drawing contracts among other things in the oil and gas sector.
It will be best if the removal comes after the refineries are fixed or new ones built and ensuring there is steady power for us all.
With these things in place, fuel subsidy can go!
You these evil elements advising GEJ wrongly,it will not be well with you!!!Okonjo Iweala;agent of world bank and distruction,it will not be well with you!!!it will not be well with agents and sponsors of boko haram.it will not be well with you!!!!
Long live Nigeria!!!
