Traditionally, UI (UCH) and Unilag (LUTH/Medilag) have always been the frontrunners in medical education in Nigeria. Some others mentioned above are also good but since they are all mostly run by the same government of Nigeria, apart from the typical subjective 'my school is the best' natural inclination, there is nothing to show that others have been able to surpass the traditional frontrunners. 3 Likes |

, Pls stop mentioning international rankings when it comes to rating of Nigerian universities. Most ranking organizations are using what they see on college websites to rank universities that's why a University of Jebba can easily become Nigeria's highest ranked with a very solid website in 2012 and the next year it's University of Onitsha ranked as the best. Na so University quality dey fluctuate ?? 1 Like |

In my own opinion, It think you should come to Unilag. I am a 200L Pharmacy student in LUTH and its been very cool. Even though Unilag as a whole join the ASUU strike, we the medical dont go on strike. Greatest Akokites. |

I am a student of AAU and won't advise you to apply to the school. Recently Ambrose alli uni med sch has been having issues with accreditation and other internal issues. Trust me, you would not want to be thrown out after jubilation of admission. |

Ajpharm: More like "Greatest of the Greatest Akokites". UNILAG and LASU will be my choice anytime. They both have state of the art equipments and are recognised worldwide. |

You guys are ust putting the schools u attend. Maiduguri? Calabar? No, for medicine, Unilorin is still d best in Nigeria. They never ever strike, and comparing their curriculum with others, they are perfect. But, u need to forget about ur social life sha. . . |
Re: Top Ten Colleges Of Medicine In Nigeria by sagbar(m): 8:49am On Jan 16, 2012 |
OAU tribalistic?? Do you think OAU is Unilorin that uses tribe of a thing to admit.Maybe u're part of those bin denied admission courtesy of your incapability to demystify the most standard post utme bin conducted annually. The fact is that OAU is the school of the genius and u must be academically militant b4 and after filling your jamb form,ok? |
Re: Top Ten Colleges Of Medicine In Nigeria by tomzman: 12:50pm On Jan 16, 2012 |
olafolarin:I concur.Another school I can also recommend is U.I.They are also good there.OAU (from experience) and UNILORIN cannot be compared with UNILAG or UI in many good terms. 1 Like |

folufx: I totally agree with this, look up schools with full accreditation. As a doctor who works inspiring, educating and mentoring Emergent Medic ( students aspiring to pursue healthcare career) towards achieving successful healthcare careers. I often advise those heading too Nigerians Universities to go to Federal and State Medical Schools. My organisation is still looking into private medical schools. Follow Emergent Medic on its facebook fan page and ask questions |

Vic-jay:medicine after death. Sha, its not over yet. You have to enquire from a jamb office nearest to you on a CHANGE OF COURSE card. It does the magic. You might spend an extra 3k tho' |

Please, urgent. I have a brother applying for medicine, he is choosing UNN as first choice though they was among the black listing from UK, but I want him to attend federal University and as this I want him to choose second choice from a federal uni that accepts second choice. Please help and advice |

Any school with full accreditation & uninterrupted calendar would do. Please IGNORE schools without full accreditation & are YET to turn out a medical doctor like N.D.U (Bayelsa) after 11 years!!! |

apocalypse: U.I it is , cases rejected in LUTH are brought to UCH , if you don't believe me ask the doctors in LUTH themselves. That isn't true! Luth only refers to other teaching hospitals in cases of 1)proximity to the patient 2)if ders a specialised unit in that teaching hospital such as the cardiac center in UNN 3) If ders no available bed space or if a strike action is on. I would know cos I hv worked in luth. @the poster,b4 u study Medicine, have u taken out time to talk to those of us who did?you would be wise to do this..Medicine isn't the bed of roses its painted to be considering the enormous amount of work u have to put in...little or no social life with peanuts for pay.. I am not tryna discourage you but if you dnt hv the passion for it,u may want to have a rethink! 2 Likes |

Some presumptuous fellow will come out and make a listing of Medical schools in Nigerian, and goes ahead with a claim to be ranking them! That is very rude, to put it mildly; very misleading. Whilst NIALS is the body authorized by law setting it up to rank Law Faculties in Nigeria; I do not exactly know which institution in Nigeria is responsible for doing same for Medical Schools. Is it the NUC or the Nigerian Medical and Dental Council? Any way, the listing made no claims of reference to any authority institution. So disregard the list. Do your due diligence. Well UCH is reportedly the best. That has not been authenticated in recent times. Others are LUTH, ABUTH, UMTH, etc. I recall that once it was that we thought UNN had a good Medical School until the UK authorities came out to list a number of Medical Schools in the country, including UNN, whose graduates can't be admitted for any postgraduate medical studies in any UK university. It was an eye opener! Some of these old names are nothing but old hags feeding off the false name they'd strangely made over the years. 1 Like |

You know Why those schools were listed? NUC withdrew their accreditation for admitting more than allow based on lecturer student ratio. UK based its statement on NUC's.
