I have one request to make and Allah is my helper. Any attack on Nasir el Rufai or on Nuhu Ribadu is an attack on me. Nasir is to my mind is one of the greatest and most patriotic Nigerians to have served in public office and he is by far the best FCT minister we have ever had. Like all of us he is not perfect.

In my AIT interview I said I agreed with 90% of what he said a day before our interview and the two bits I didn’t agree with I stated: I don’t agree that there is no subsidy and I believe Nasir was quoting contributions from tHrusted experts which have been flying around recently including Prof Tam David West.

And we have debated this issue of accounting and economic concepts in this forum. I also do not agree that it is easy in the short-term to have massive fiscal retrenchment without a huge political backlash-indeed the fuel subsidy is one such case and retrenchment for instance would also bring people out.

But Nasir is one person for whom I have always had the highest level of personal respect. His integrity is beyond reproach-of course, people will say anything but after years of trying no one is yet able to show any evidence backing up allegations. Intellectually, I am yet to know anyone who can match him and this has been the case since the 1970s. Femi Fani-Kayode has written in Nasir’s defence but these are not Nasir’s words and if you knew Femi well you would not be surprised or bothered by his peculiar choice of language. I have seen Femi transit from a rabid ethnic chauvinist and christian fanatic who thought Obasanjo was a stooge of the backward Muslim north, to a minister in Obasanjo’s cabinet preaching national unity, and now to some freelance activist and public commentator.

This is just a stage he is going through but I like to think he means well. When AIT requested me to speak they never said it was to respond to Nasir and when we started and they played their clip we told them we didn’t want to personalise this. Nasir and I were friends and brothers as teenagers. We have remained friends and brothers and will remain
friends after office.

We don’t have to agree 100%. He also understands that so long as I am in government I have 100% loyalty to the president. If I feel I cannot be loyal I should step down. This does not mean supporting every policy but it means standing up to play my part in doing what is good for the economy.
I, therefore, request please that no one defending me should attack his person. And only those who don’t know Nasir will even think I am his intellectual match- he is just exceptional in his brilliance.

This sanusi guy seem to have a lot of respect for nasri, one talent obj had was knowing how to choose the best to work with him. In the end however, he'll use them and dump them, obj used nasri as a pawn to punish his political opponents. What nasri did in abj as minister seriously compromised his integrity. Sanusi look well o, the guy (nasri) may not be same person u knew since teenage.

I honestly don't know why they keep bringing every bit of garbage this guy says to front page. here he is trying to sound apoplectic, claiming Nasir will understand he is on the other side now. Meaning if he was not in office, he would have taken a different view of things.

Can this guy honestly make this kind of self serving statement if he was under OBJ's government? Cos they see GEJ as weak, every tom can easily have a go at him and expect to get away with it.

I really think this guy is not smart afterall. His economics appear elementary

No man is perfect and we will always evaluate and choose which imperfection to live with. I like SLS more these days, may he one day be president of this Great Country. El- Rufai, i can only hope he has the integrity to match his intellect. Small steps and GeJ keeps moving in the right direction. Long live this Great Country of ours.

Re: Sanusi Lamido Sanusi Writes On El-rufai by revolt(m): 9:23pm On Jan 17, 2012
El-Rufai lost all his credibility by attacking government on an emotional level. The personal abuses on GEJ is embarrassing. Anyway, that's typical of a desperate Aboki!
Re: Sanusi Lamido Sanusi Writes On El-rufai by realborn(m): 9:28pm On Jan 17, 2012
Ymodulus,
I concur wit you absolutely. If SLS actually made that statement, then thumbs up for his action, humility and show of respect. True friendship transcends political position and appointments.

I am not a fan of any of them. However they represent their clan aptly.
Re: Sanusi Lamido Sanusi Writes On El-rufai by hercules07: 9:34pm On Jan 17, 2012
SLS is a good man, a good man stands with his friend through thick or thin, I wish we had more of him in high places, the opposition has a role to play and El-rufai is playing that role brilliantly.
Re: Sanusi Lamido Sanusi Writes On El-rufai by Akiika: 9:41pm On Jan 17, 2012
First of all,  i'm yoruba and I have nothing but admiration for SLS, just like i have for Emeka Anyaoku, Chinue Achebe e.t.c. What makes some of you guys assume that every Hausa man is somehow dumb and stupid? You call them stupid, yet the British handed over power to them, they have sinced ruled Nigeria for over 30 yrs (either by crook or by means), i know your first line of defense is, it was through coup d'etat, aren't there southerners in the military? They are not bold enough or too afraid to die.
I agree that illiteracy rate is higher in the North but any educated Hausa individual is equally as intelligent as any Nigerian.
Stop this ethnic bigotry nonsense, it's stupid! You are entitled to agree or disagree with SLS, he has made his point, and by far one of the few public official that says the truth most times.

How I wish GEJ can match the intellectual capacity of El-Rufai. The day we put sentiment apart and argue with all honesty is day that will mark the beginning of better future for our country. Like you and me, El-Rufai is a Nigerian; he has every right to criticize the government. We did the same thing to him when he was there. And so far, anybody that listened to this man will agree with me that even GEJ with his PHD cannot match the intelligent of this guy, well constructive in his argument.
Re: Sanusi Lamido Sanusi Writes On El-rufai by Nobody: 9:55pm On Jan 17, 2012
I have lived to Respect the following Northers.

General Muhammed Buhar (Sincerity and Leadershipn. His only flaw is his utterances which has made him loose the support of people politically.)

Nasir El-Rufai (his intelligence and boldness. His flaws, give him power and he could take it to the extreme).

Sanusi Lamido Sanusi (he is intellectually sound and brilliant, but ready to force all his policies either right or wrong down your throat).

Nuhu Ribadu (his boldness and outspokeness. His flaws, I stopped admiiring him when he aligned himself with Tinubu and co).

Theophilus Danjuma (his discipline and intellect. His flaws, he might sometime act like a double faced dog).

Ghalli Umar Nahaba (his political bravery)

Farouk Lawan (His leadership quality and determination).

Meet one educated and high intellect Northerner and he can easily make you grin in Envy.

The Northerners are Fast thinkers and Bold to the Extreme.

Quotes by El- Rufai

El - Rufai ------- "Jonathan is clean, honest."

El - Rufai -------- "Jonathan can contest".

El - Rufai on Boko Haram -------- " Nigerians made a mistake not electing Buhari".

El- Rufai insists -------" Buhari is unelectable".

El- Rufai ------- "Abuja is not for the poor".

El - Rufai: Personality Disorder or Plain Manipulation?

He is a hypocrite, hungry for power and enemy of the poor.

The things that will destroy us are: politics without principle; pleasure without conscience; wealth without work; knowledge without character; business without morality; science without humanity; and worship without sacrifice.

Your eyes will soon open, 2015 is around the corner. How I wish your ppl can just make better use of this privilege that is given to them on a platter of gold. After 2015, 50 years may be too small to have such opportunity again.

I have come to have sooo much respect for SLS. I respect him so much for the mere fact that he is not afraid to make his opinion known regardless of shi.t. 'Terribly' brilliant (but he has claimed he is no match to Rufai). I love Farouk Lawan, El- Rufai and Nuhu Ribadu too. Wish we can have all of them as a team.
